Title: Carbs
Post by: scapello on February 18, 2010, 04:30:36 PM
This seems to be a pretty decent price.

I don't think that price is current...They do not keep the online pricing up to date very well. That is cheaper than I bought them for late last year...

Either that, or they have determined the have too many and have lowered the price to get them off the shelf.

If that is the case, that is a good deal.

They havent updated their online catalog since 2006. The reason I was given was that the dealers were starving because everybody was ordering direct from North Carolina

Looks like they updated the website and gotten the price updated. I know Bob (weymouth399) has been selling them for $375.00, but I don't know if he has anymore. I know he said when he ran out they would be $400.00+ back in an earlier post in April.

I can supply these carbs which can easily be converted for non-fuel pump application as well.

I would be happy to help,

A bunch of work
Randy or Old slow guy could tell better, drilling & filling fuel inlets, different needles seats. Maybe more?
Randy also sells carbs and I belive he has done this mod.

Not much work really; pretty easy. You will need to break down your old set and remove the dual inlet fuel supply fittings. Then you will need to remove the two outer carb bodies from the new set and install the fittings you removed from the old set.

After that you need to change over the float needle seats over to the ones from your old carbs. The new needle will work with the old seat without any problem.

Bolt them on and you will be ready to go.

If you need me to set you up a new set I can do that if you want to send me your old ones.

Let me know, Randy -RPM

Randy, I'm not really sure what shape my carbs are in. One mechanic a few years back told me it appeared someone had drilled out the jets but I never actually saw it for myself. He could have mistaken a worn needle seat for a crappy dremel job, but who knows? Bottom line, I think if I were to send these to you and have you set them up, you may find some necessary '85 bits that need replacing.

its amazing how worn the emulsion tubes can get... especially if the bike gets ridden agressively.

we pulled eric's out and they still looked like brand new at 100K miles..... mine however were so elongated they were almost double the diameter of the new emulsion tubes i got from Randy.

KOokaloo!

Well, based on my knowledge of the previous owner as well as myself, I can faithfully say this bike has seen some aggressive riding. :sarcastic:

Randy, I'm game for sending my carbs in if you are. The new ones will need to be rejetted for a SuperTrapp. PM me the details and I can have them on their way to you by tomorrow afternoon.

An update; After getting the carbs to build for "yamahammerFJ" and diving in, I determined that the center inlet fitting from the late model carbs is longer than the tubes removed to make it a gravity set if carbs. So, I had to make a new fitting to go between the center carbs to replace the small fuel pump nipple. I have made a couple of them if anyone else is interested in converting over a late model set of carbs to dual gravity feed.

All others changes to as previously mentioned.

I'd been thinking about this mod myself for my '87 rather than going fuel pump....

Has anyone tried the 3211-D-AH dual outlet Pingell?

http://www.pingelonline.com/powerflo_application_frames.htm (http://www.pingelonline.com/powerflo_application_frames.htm)

With it mounted in the adaptor plate straight onto the tank outlet, will it fit in underneath there without too much stress?

I looked through this post, but I couldn't find any real details on these carbs (sorry if I missed it).  Are they actually Mikuni BS36 carbs like the ones that came on the FJs from the factory, or are they another brand of carbs that are similar enough to be used as replacements?
Title: Re: Carbs
Post by: weymouth399 on December 16, 2010, 06:18:27 PM
They are yamaha XJR 1250 Brand new in box.
I have sold a bunch of these for friends in legends. When you buy a crate engine they come with it.
They are a direct replacement for a bike with a fuel pump.
Any other questions just ask.

These are the pics of the slightly used set I was talking about. As you can see very nice.
$325.00 including shipping. (lower 48)

There is another set of new in box also right now. $400.00 plus shipping

I don't know when there will more, there are only 10 engines left in the US as of last night. And they have no idea when more will be shipped, ports are closed, cranes fallen over. (sounds like it may take awhile)

Nice set of carbs Bob, and a great price, thanks.  Got 'em all mounted and ready to go but broke the air box vent pipe on the back of the air box trying to get it out of the hard as rock 23 year old rubber grommet. New vent pipe and grommet are on order.  Can't wait to fire it up.  Then for the snow to melt.
