Hey everybody,
Names mick, and I'm from Detroit. I've been lurking here almost from the beginning, rooting out tips and tricks and potential mods for my '93 FJ. Between this site and the yahoo list I've learned a ton about this bike and I really appreciate all of you posting your knowledge so freely. Thought it was about time I came out of the shadows.
A little about myself: I started riding later in life, after college, when I finally had time and some money to do it. I started small on a Buell Blast, which was good to learn on but quickly became scary on the expressway. After less than a year I upgraded to a Buell Cyclone M2 which was a powerhouse and a ton of fun. Unfortunately due to financial issues that had to go and I was bikeless for a couple years. I got back into it with an '87 Yamaha Radian which I tore down completely, engine and all, and rebuilt just for the hell of it. In the middle of that project I became aware of the FJ1200. I was looking for a larger more comfortable bike for longer rides and it seemed to fit the bill perfectly. I got mine in February of 2008. It' got somewhere north of 35K miles on it and still running strong. I've put about 7K of those on it since I've had it. It doesn't have much in the way of mods, just the green coils with a relay, a horn relay and headlight relay. I'm thinking had about doing the USD front fork mod, uni dual pods and an exhaust. Does that sound like a good place to start?
So far my longest ride on the FJ was a Bun Burner 1500 from Detroit to Houston last June. Other than having to replace the chain and sprocket when I got there, the bike was flawless.
Thanks for the great resource. I'll try to contribute when I can, but it seems everybody here know a hell of a lot more than me. Looking forward to learning more from you all.

Which end of Detroit are you in? I used to live there myself and know the city and surrounds pretty well.

Hi Arnie, thanks for welcome. I live just east of Woodward between 6 and 7 mile, about a mile south of the state fairgrounds across Woodward from the Palmer Park golf course. One of the few remaining semi-decent neighborhoods.
Seems like there are lot of folks once from detroit or SE michigan that live elsewhere now, never fail to run into them in my travels. My hunch is that folks have been dispersing steadily as the local economy has been going down over the last 20 or more years.

I am a native Michigander myself. I lived in BC and Coldwater most my life. We moved away in 92 and the economy was just fine, but the weather was becoming unbearable. One winter we went without seeing the sun for 28 days :mad:, and that wasn't even a record. Soon after that we moved to the Sunshine State. Now I freak out if I don't see the sun for 3 days.
Sounds like you have yourself a good find in your 93 FJ. Ride on....
