Title: 2013 NEFJR
Post by: weymouth399 on February 25, 2013, 09:35:11 PM
Well, I'll start the ball rolling.

What are we going to do this year?

Where we going to have it?

A few options have been brought up, time think of which one to pick one?

We may have out grown the campground or need to grow up while we are there. :bad:

Need to finalize a date soon?

Well Bob my vote is to keep it at the same location. I have really enjoyed it there.  We just need to remember to keep the noise down late at night. That's all. But the majority rules. So if there is a bigger vote to have it somewhere else then I will be there at the new location. I'm done with winter! Come on spring!

I'm hoping to make it down this year... hated missing last year.

<rant>
I do, however, need to get new insurance on my ride. In a fit of rage I cancelled my bike insurance; something about seeing a $991 premium for a 20 year old bike, with no theft or comprehensive, and no tickets or claims, ever.
State Farm would not budge, even after I told them that my father in law's 2001 1500cc Intruder costs him only $600

I'll be moving insurance for two cars, house and bike in the spring to whatever company gives me the best price. Bike insurance in Ontario sucks.

I think it may be worth trying some other campground in the area. I did some ADVrider events last year and there are a lot of campgrounds that are a little more accommodating to people laughing around the campfire after dark. I'm riding an event out of N.Conway  (http://www.sacorivercampingarea.com/ (http://www.sacorivercampingarea.com/)) on May 17. From what I experienced last year I would expect 30-40 riders. Lots of alcohol will be consumed, and lies will be told. This is close to Bethel Me where we have been. After that I would have a better idea if this would be a good option. I'm willing to do some posting on the ADVrider forum on some possible locations the they have had good luck at before.
The campground I stayed at last fall in NY (Grand Slam) is just a little too far from the Adirondacks to be a good home base. I rode mt DRZ400 to the Cromag event last fall at Silver Lake state park in VT. They reserve the whole park for three days, have over 100 riders , a pulled pork dinner on Saturday night, and some incredible trail/dirt/asphalt riding.Lots of drinking and story telling into the early morning.
I went and bought a KTM 950 Adventure to do more of these events. Nothing quite like a 100hp dirt bike. :wacko3:

With that being said, if you guys want to go back to the original campground, I'm on board. I'll just bring a book to read in my tent after 10 pm. :flag_of_truce:

I agree with the Koala man Glen....this place looks like a great alternative to the other camp site and it's very near to the other location...I definitely think this is the spot...........but I think it's time that we make a decision ......other wise there won't be a Rally....come one fellas....lets start moving forward on this.......if not.......we have to consider the alternative....."not having one"...... :ireful: :negative: :sorry: :scratch_one-s_head:

So.......we need
1. to decide on a date......every one in favour of the last weekend in July? if so...answer yes
2. Is every one in agreement with Glens chioce?   If so....answer yes
3. Travis doesn't seem to want to take the lead this year......Bob sort of did but is probably too busy to follow up....this event will likely need somebody locally to make arrangements.
4. We as a group need to raise our hands........and be counted.
5. Contact with the new site should be made and numbers presented to the group......
6. location at the new site needs to be established as well ......(make sure it's near the 2 vending trucks....."The Chip Wagon" and "Snow Daddy"....for when we get the munchies around midnight
7. Need also to arrange for some strobe lights, portable dance floor, some flourecent night sticks and some local squirrel..... (popcorn).....Koala man will be the DJ.......YO DJ "E" .....lets bring it on baby.. :music:
8. Lastly....we need to start doing some Cattle prodding......send out some PM's and emails....and get this train moving out of this stationary position.....

I can handle the Ontario posse.......so you boys to the south....."saddle up.......lock and load"..........and get on your horses.......and lets ride !!!!!!!!    :good:

I don't care where, end of the month is OK with me.

We have 3 choices as of right now.

Same place Nice, but treated like children.

Diff place All new experience.

NHMS has all the camping area, million dollar shower room, on premise restaurant, racing going on when we're not riding, prob all the beer we can drink from a friend who owns a brewery in NH that sponsors the legend RC races, (Moat Mtn smokehouse and brewing co) bit far from the same riding areas, but near others.

If RPM Randy came out, they're RC racing at NHMS that weekend. I could Probably find a car for him to use and a bike to ride the rally on. Of course this is me being selfish :shok: most racers are.

I have a open mind about it, again :shok:.

This will be a non PC post, if you get you are the type to get your panties all bunched up easy, you may want to stop reading, NOW.

W T F is up with this rally?? Really W T F

Just because Travis didn't set it all up, they're is no intrest in doing it??? again W T F

Are we all that dependent on others to do this for us??? :dash2:

He started this rally basically by himself with little help from me OR OTHERS. He and I got our asses handed to us by the campground owner's last year, so fuck us if we're not ready to be the organizers again. But we will.

If there is to be a rally, (WE) need to get our SHIT TOGETHER. We have options, or it dies this yr.
Like everyone else we have lives too, Travis and I will ride, we always do, I hope to see you all when we do.

Hey Mr Snarky.....you know I'm in...... I don't really care where it happens but I loved the time we had last year...I was hoping to do it again. I will take my share of the responsibility for the shit you got from the camp ground...I tried my best to appease the situation.....and I promise to try to not let it happen again......... I will come.....I only hope that it is close to the same spot.......12 hrs of slabbing already sucks... :bad:...any further away...might be tough. I will cross my fingers and hope you good ole US of A boys can put it all together. Tell Trav I know how discouraged he must feel. I thought that the Ontario chapter might be ready to have its own Rally but I appear to have been mistaken. Seems the guy who tries to put it all together somehow becomes the bad guy because he doesn't know everyones timetable or bank accounts. In fact John(Tiger)hung me right out to dry.....offered to help with the orginizing and then did the invisible man after posting his offer to help. I tried to put some options together and then he just pissed on me in front of everyone by wishing the Rally good luck and that he wouldn't participate......and when I told Paul what Tiger did to me.....he pulled out a 12 gauge shotgun and blew my head off. I'm done with those 2.......what pisses me off the most....is that I honestly believed that these guys were my friends....correction...not friends... good friends...man what an idiot I am......so cheer up Trav.....at least you don't have to deal with a knives in your back. Oh...... I will still have the BBQ's this summer......JUST MINUS A FEW BOTTOMLESS PITS....

I've been crazy busy with work lately, so I may have missed some of the subtly in the message threads... guess I've been lucky: my two trips to Maine rocked... I enjoyed everyone's company and thought the organization was first rate. Thanks guys. Did a couple of rides last year with Ontario riders, and again: a great group.

Sorry to hear about the discord. Guess there are bumps in every road.
I still look forward to a few group rides this year, and a nice long weekend in Maine.

Hope it all works out, and thanks to everyone who helps make it happen.

Bob, I had a great time at the rally when I went and want to do it again, but life at present (with teenagers) is keeping me busy to the point that I  only plan out about 3 days in advance. I'm still trying to plan a ride for this weekend, but that's falling apart--  It's all good and I'm grateful for everything.  But any riding I get in is a last minute "yep I've got a couple of hours" type thing.  Don't take my non participation as a lack of gratitude for all you and Travis did setting everything up, or that it wasn't good enough.  I had a great time meeting other Fj er's, loved the ride, and look farward to the next time.

I have had a blast at the 2 rallies I have attended here, myself! Awesome routes, and  accommodations, with a great group of guys. ....

If you haven't attended one of these you're missing out on a lot of awesome riding and fun!!  Travis and Bob do an awesome job organizing. A big thanks to them, again. I know there's a lot of work behind the scenes and they make it look easy. This rally was the first on my bucketlist!!!! Its an adventure riding down there, camping, and riding the mountains! And riding back.

So lets pick a time and a place, and go from there. Late July works for me. North Conway works if we want to do the routes (or parts of the normal routes) we have done before. No one needs to be bitched at because of some one elses issues. We can get a few sites near each other and go from there. Everyone makes their on reservations, we ride a little, eat a little, drink a little and relax. It would be very close to the same miles for those coming from CA.

NHMS would take more organization and responsibility on someones part (Bob). If that's the way you guys won't to go , I'm up for that too. I'd be willing to put together some routes around that area.

Thanks again for the NESR ride last year.
Definitly a life time event to remember and hopefully I will be able to join in again in the near future.
My new job position has me tied up for business year end and last two weekends in july for inventory so I won't be able to make the 2013 run.

Hmmm. I follow this thread and it appears as though someone is twisting others words around. It appears to me as though John and Paul are apologizing to our American friends to the south for having to be exposed to this type of slagging. I for one am appalled that this type of treatment is perpetrated on this forum. Are we not all on here for the betterment of the others?

Hey John.....and thank you for your insight...... and I would love to hear your views on friendships..........obviously you have already made a few in here...... Have you been to any FJ Rally's yet...or met anyone from the NESR? Have been to my home and met me..or my family ...or swam in my pool.....and ate my food....and slept in my house???? In my opinion....I would focuss on advising people to apologize first for their own conduct before apologizing for someone elses? My advice to you....would be to keep your prejudicial opinions to yourself until you have a better knowledge of everyones real character in here......!!!! Appalling??? You have no idea !!!

I could not make it last year due to work,  but this year is different.

If a few guys are getting together,  I will definately consider riding the old girl out to NESR, given that the bike is still in Rally form in July...

4 hour ride out from Montreal, to the Saco Camping Area... seems like a nice ride down as well.

Keep us posted.

The campground was loaded with Quebec plates this weekend (Victoria day?). It seems like a nice place. The owner came by at a little after 11pm and asked nicely if we could keep it down to a dull roar. We were very loud (about 25 people, drinking heavily). Every one did their best to bring it down a bit. Most everyone went to sleep by midnight and no one ever came around again. This is the fourth year of the WHACO rally and they have never had any issue coming back. They lock the gate at 11pm, but there are hotels with in "walking distance" or cab ride from the gate if someone would rather sleep with walls around them. Sure looks like a nice place for a rally.

Looks like Saco River is out.............They require a five night reservation during peek times, which pretty much includes all summer.

I'm still willing to try and help make this happen if people are still interested in getting together the weekend of July 27/28. I'll go ahead and see if I can find another good place to sleep, there are a lot of possibility in the area we would like to ride.

If this weekend works for you, and you are still interested, please make a post or PM me.

These are on the Gorham NH side of Rt 2. About 30 minutes west of the Bethel, Me campground. We probably rode right by these on one of the loops in the past.

I think there will be one.......for some reason though...the site has yet to be determined.....the problem isn't interest.......last year was my first rally and was awesome !!! :good: the place where we stayed had been held there more than once.....to my understanding......however....last year we had such a good time that some of the other campers complained and the campsite owners came over and chided us like a bunch of kids.......in our defense.....we were at the very back of the site and the noise was more from laughter and conversation than anything else...and we all turned in around midnight...so........I would say that finding another location has been the only reason for the apparent lack of interest......hang in there.......I am pretty sure it will happen.....  I'm planning to check out the campgrounds next week , and some roads in the general area. The FJ is still sitting on bald tires from a busy summer last year , that's Sundays project. I've been riding , and working on the big KTM and my DR-Z400 so far this year.
I plan on staying/riding some where in northern NH on the weekend of July 27/28 and I would love some company....................... :drinks:

This is what we had.............
A campground centered in some of the best riding in the north east.

$10 a night which included firewood, Dinner and coffee in the morning.  And a place where we can party all night.

But still, I spent much of last years rally hearing how......."We shouldn't have the rally here"....................."The rally would be so much better if it were _____" fill in the blank.

Kind of sounds like I'm the one doing everything wrong, Believe me I would way rather be the guy that just shows up to the big show...
Letting those with more resources, finances, and connections set everything up for me.

There was a misunderstanding last year......Yes! But there was complaints the previous years too.

as I recall 3 (4 last year) guys (leaving names out to protect the guilty)  are going to party all night long after 2 am last year.
These 4 guys didn't happen to be the quietest of the rally group, and drinking all night didn't seem to help them use their inside voice.

Despite the yelling, swearing and Singing the campground still said we was welcome back.

The misunderstanding was when the owners wife came to tell us of the complaints from Friday night.
Then we started a FJ with the pipe pointed right at her and started revving it up and up and up while she was trying to talk to us.

If I was the owner and my wife came back and told me that, I would be pretty pissed at you FJ punks..............Would anyone else here feel so differently about their wife in this situation?

Despite that I talked to the owner and apologized, kissed ass, (with a bit of help from the Canadians) and shit was still cool.

So it seems to me if a place is better than what we had, I'm in........But make sure the campground knows about them 4 guys that are going swear, yell, and tell dirty jokes as loud as they can, each trying to out talk or yell over the next.  Either the campground has to give us permission for such activities or them 4 guys shouldn't be invited to the rally.

I can only speak for myself, but none of my comments were aimed at blaming you Travis. I think you went way over and above to put out all the brush fires sparked by your fellow FJ riders. I only want to help make this fun, safe, and relaxing. I thought it might be nice to have some one different  yelling at us in the morning. We will never know if there is something better if we never try something different.

With the exception of the Grand Slam campground in NY last summer , every camp and ride this year has resulted in someone coming by at night and reminding us that it's late and try and keep it down. But no one has made it personal like the owner came across last year. Sorry, that's just how I feel.

Maybe I'm getting a bit long in the tooth, but I would not be able to stay up until 2am and enjoy a spirited ride the next day.  Which, aside from meeting good people, is the point of an FJ rally... is it not? I missed last year, but the two previous rallies were awesome. Zero complaints from me.  You and Bob were great hosts.

My FJ is running great right now, so if work and family cooperate, I'd love to ride out to Maine again this year.

Hey "Book'm Dano".....you did miss a great time......and this year will happen :good2:....and I will be going :good:......this time I will trailer CanD (I HATE SLABBING !!! :bad:)....so if you want to still make it....I'm sure we can figure something out to minimize your expense :empathy3:........see if you can talk Paul into coming :flag_of_truce:.......we really did have an awesome time last year. :yahoo:
Trav and Bob did a great job :drinks:.....it was their commitment .....their generosity.....and the on site pit stop they provided which made the event so good......all the food and provisions were made available and like Trav said......everyone else just had to show up and throw in a few bucks. I don't think that Travis and Bob got enough credit for all their hard work and dedication......and I am shocked that anyone (FJ'rs) complained at all. I think the best solution (for this year) would be to have it at the same spot........now wait a sec........and at the last bon fire of the rally....everyone bring a suggestion as to an alternative location and everyone vote on it and whatever the group agrees to.....that's final !!As for this year.....make sure that we show up with a few basic ground rules :mail1:........no swearing after 6........no dirty jokes after 8......no rails after 10.......no music after 11.....no peace pipes after 11:30.....no more drinking after 11:45.........and all naked females have to leave by the pumpkin hour........(that's midnight for those who don't know Sinderella... :blum1:) and lights out and mouths shut by 12:30..... this, I believe is doable..........                                           :yahoo:        FJ owners campout & group ride July 27, 28 2013         :yahoo:

                Timberland Campground,  809 route 2, Shelburne NH      http://www.timberlandcampgroundnh.com/ (http://www.timberlandcampgroundnh.com/)

I talked with the campground and they still have some tent sites available for the weekend. Their trailers are all rented , but there are rooms available right down the street in Gorham, NH. It's 14 miles west of our original campground (pleasant river). I have some routes laid out, as well as Travis's routes from the past years. If there is enough interest I have a route to the coast for some seafood (Lobsta) that won't be totally boring. This is certainly last minute, but that will just add to the adventure of it all. We can put at least two tents on a site, considering we will be on bikes. The cost ($23/night) can be split by two people or add a third ($5) and divide by three. We can do a late departure (before 5 pm) for 1/2 the daily rate for Sunday. There is food in Gorham for breakfast/dinner and we will have lunch out on the route. I would like to reserve a couple sites in the next couple days, so if you are interested at all please post/PM me as soon as you can. We should be able to get a few sites together, and they will give us a little price break for eight or more people. Even if you decide at the very last minute to come there should still be tent sites available, or we will squeeze you onto one of ours. I'm thinking of leaving the campground at 10am on Saturday for the ride, so if you want to just ride for the day you are welcome come along. Sunday will likely be earlier, because I'm sure people will want to hit the road home in the afternoon. I'll be at the campground around 6pm Friday the 26. If you want to be there before that I will make sure you get sent to the right sites.

There are some that can't go that weekend. This is a great but small community of riders, with lots going on, hate to leave anyone out.

Here's "my" dilemma

I have now committed myself to my RC customers the last weekend of July because of no yay or nay on rally. I know of one other that will be at the track, not the rally that weekend. I'm all done by 12ish both days, then I can ride. (We never got started much earlier) :bad:

So my suggestion for where the rally happens is very one minded. But it be the only way for me to go that weekend, or I try to catch up.

Just bad timing for me this year. My mom's birthday is July 27 and she'd really like me to come down to Windsor to see her.
The FJ is running nicely, so I'll keep an eye out for rides.  I may do a three day solo ride late in the summer.  If so I'd hope to meet up with some people along the way.

I'm sure we (me?) can work it out to meet you along the way. Where are you going to be in the AM ?? I think the routes can be pretty flexible. It may only be me, as it looks like Kev may not go. There are lots of people looking at this thread, so who knows if some more will decide to go. If Travis goes too that would be great.

I've committed to a time and place. This is the weekend I set aside this summer , as it's been pretty much the time we have done this before. Like everyone else, i have committed to other things on other weekends. Maybe we can make a planning deadline for the 2014 event. Sort of a deadline for the deadline. I hope we can get some more people to join the fun, but I know I will be camping and riding in the White Mountains.

Might I suggest the August 2, 2014 weekend. The Ontario civic holiday in Monday, August 4, which makes travel a bit easier for the out-of-towers.  I'd probably takes a Friday vacation day, travel out to Kingston on Thursday night and then ride to Maine Friday (hopefully with company).

I'm actually doing a road trip with the family through Maine this summer for first week of August.  We'll be passing right by the camp ground, along with stops at Mt. Washington.  I suspect it will feel different in a minivan. Too bad we were not travelling a week earlier. I could have had the family meet everyone (hmmm... maybe not )

I will be at NHMS, in the mornings and evenings, that is were my RV will be. The party at NHMS is awesome sat night, and we/I won't be the loudest there.  :yahoo:

There's a restaurant, bath house, store, and M/C racing what a way to spend a M/C rally weekend.

Oh the best part Moat Mtn beer will be flowing. :drinks:  :yahoo: :drinks:

Practice is at 8, racing 11ish. If anyone has to go to tech, that take a bit longer. Then I can ride, catch up.

I remember the Rally fell on that weekend a few years ago. I will pencil that date in for next year. It is certainly a place to start.   :good2:

The rally route could run run over to Bear notch, the Kang., Warren, Plymouth, and meet you for lunch in Meredith  (maybe Harts Turkey). That's about 30 or 45 minutes from you. Then we could all ride over to Fryburg and up 113  and up to Berlin and back to Gorham. I'm sure we can workout a loop to ride to ride part way back to NHMS with you. We have time to work out those details. :good2:

I'm close to 100% sure I'll be riding up to meet you guys.  I've got a place in central NH and will be leaving from there early Sat to get up to Gorham for breakfast.  If you guys have a breakfast spot in mind or should I plan on hitting the campsite first?   I'm really looking forward to the 27th.

So far I am the only one staying at the campground. I'll do a little looking around to find a place to meet for breakfast. Unless something changes we will ride a route through the White mountains and meet Bob W. in Meredith for lunch, and ride from there. I don't know if Bob want to ride Sunday too. Either way we can meet in Gorham and ride a norther loop in to Maine and meet Bob in Rangley for lunch (or not) and ride on from there. Hope you can make it. I'll keep you updated, or feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

It's rained here all day, so I have decided to ride up in the morning. It looks like a solo ride, so I may ride the big KTM 950 and explore some of the dirt roads as well as pavement. It's still packed up from last weekends trip to Oxford Plains, ME. I'll have the helmet cam, so I'll have some teasers for next year.

Pencil in August 2,3 2014 for the Rally next year.   :drinks:

  Back from the rally..............

    2 days, 500 miles, 1 rider,  0 FJ's..............

I met up with Bob W (weymouth399) and Doug (carsick) at NHMS. I got to the track just as bob was finishing his morning race. I got to watch Doug racing his sv650. I've got some video from the day that I will post later.
Bob told me that Paul (paulfj03) was going to be stopping by for a while on his way back from NovaScotia etc.. He rode in and we had a good time talking, eating, and watching some racing. It was good to see him again.

I'll post some more details and video's soon.  :yahoo:

Well I have to say it was awesome to see doug, glen and bob this year at the NHMS.  That is a big Speedway compared to what I'm used to here. :). I'm glad I got to see you guys again...

Thanks for the tour du jour, Doug. Smugglers Notch and the Gap (?) were worth the ride! Nice roads around that area. We WILL do it again.

Yes, it was great having a bite, watching the races (Doug was in 2 I saw), with Glen and Bob, and catching up. It was great to see your race car, Bob, and I'm glad I could show you how to get out of the car properly.  :wacko2:

The fastest racer there who took most wins was amazingly fast. I didn't have time to wait in the lineup for an autograph, but I did manage to get a picture of him as he drove by me on the infield:

For sure! I am slow at getting up the info and pics up here!!

On the 21st the gang (7 of us) left Rutland, VT en route for Bangor Me. It was to be the 2nd leg of our journey with 6-6.5 hours of riding through some nice roads and highways.

AND it went right through some familiar awesome roads traveled by many FJers during the rallies. :) - Hwy #112, #4, route #113, hwy #2,  and all the other excellent roads! For an extra hour detour, I think we got in some of the best riding in the area.

The Sunday River Brewery, suggested by Travis, right on hwy#2 just past Bethel, was the perfect rest spot with good food! I will remember that place!  :i_am_so_happy:

It was great to see you again, Travis!  :drinks:  Thanks for meeting us there, having lunch,  and showing us the quicker way to Bangor!!!   :bye2:  It topped off an excellent day.

I will put a thread in the Trip Reports section too....

Cheers!

Here is a little taste of some of the riding in the area. This is the north end of rt113 (Evens Notch Road). This has been on the route before and will be on it again. Some people have been known to ride it more than once per rally (Doug ?). Enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace from my big trail bike.

Well I hated to miss this years rally but I hope you all had a good time. Well I'm sure alot of you knew I would be able to go long without a bike. So I just picked up a 09 FZ1 last week. I hope to make to next years rally. I hope you all had a safe and fun time.
