Here is a blog of a rider that rode Route 66 solo from Chicago to LA.

If you have the chance to ride any of the parts that are not interstate, I highly recommend it.  I have ridden sections in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. The road even goes through an Old gold mining ghost town, Oatman, Arizona. The hidden gems are priceless.

Spent many week-ends in Oatman while growing up. My uncle owned a ranch out there. I was even made an honorary member of the "Ragged Ass Miners Club" one time at the Oatman Hotel. LOL! Can you imagine an 8-12 year old bellying up to the bar these days? They only served me soda, or saspirilla, of course, but still let me sit at the bar. This was also back when you would check your handgun in at the bar. The Arizona & California stretches of Route 66 are incredible! Especially during the rare April & May after a heavy rain fall. All the grasses are growing, the cactus blossoms are blooming & the desert is covered with wild flowers.
