March is approaching fast, so its time to stir this thread up a bit, mainly for the SE Qlders travelling down. I've organised to set out Wednesday morning 16th, head to Warwick and travel inland, either via Goondiwindi or Glenn Innes, the enclosed map says Goondiwindi is the shortest quickest way. This will give an easy 3 days to get to Harrietville, and I plan to do the same on the way back. Its 1510kms each way, so around 500kms per day is easy, gives me time to take photos etc. At this stage Shane (my 'bro and Voyager are coming), Dayta as well?, not sure. But I think Shane will be plotting some free camping spots on the route if possible, Lord knows I'll spend enough money on the Fri-Sat in Harrietville  :drinks:

Anyway I've enclosed my proposed route https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zEdHQjuHN5vs.kaMHXN9-3RJM&usp=sharing  and if anyone has suggestions etc or would like to join us, just let me know. :good2:    March is coming .....

Geez Ray, I just tried the google maps link you posted and it says "Access Denied" and I need to send you a request for permission to open it!

It's not secret men's business like the rev limiter is it?

Ooops, still learning this map business, this should work  https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zEdHQjuHN5vs.kaMHXN9-3RJM&usp=sharing   probably the same link as before, I just changed the viewing/sharing options.

Arnie

After you've gone to the " share / embed " box, you can choose to generate a short link.
This is a much better choice IMO to give others a look at what you've planned.

Also, though its a bit longer you might want to not go quite so far W as Forbes & Coonabarabran etc and get twistier roads with more shade cover.

Ray, Arnie..... I would consider going to Coonabarabran just for the fun of riding some of the roads through the Warrumbungle ranges......but agree with you Arnie..... for 3 hours of boredom, you can't beat the run from Goondiwindi to Narrabri.
At this stage, I am pretty sure Peta and I will be trailering down, leaving either 15th or 16th and not planning on getting back home until Easter weekend.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

Here is a little variation from Albury going down the Kiewa Highway to Germantown. Check out going down the range after Tawonga.  :gamer:

Also going down the New England Highway to Tamworth then across to Coonabarabran.

Just a thought.   :yahoo:
It's great to throw the leg over. :drinks:

And, another variation on your original route Ray.  https://goo.gl/maps/bFU77QNzZLx
This is a bit more than 100 kms longer, but will save the center of your tires some wear :-)
It avoids the 2 horrors of N/S travel, Sydney and the Hume (M31), while still being fairly direct.

While the Warrenbungles are interesting, the ride to and from is not.
Note: the "scenic drive" there was all horrendous washboard the last time I was there.

Hi Ray. Personally i would prefer the Glen Innes option. Saves me riding a few hours north (north west really) just to turn left than head south. Will be putting my leave forms in as soon as i know who my manage will be, but shouldn't be an issue.

Yep easy. We will pick up my 'bro in Warwick and then head South to collect you in Glenn Innes Mark. Previous map link I have done has been modified to take that in plus also included Shanes suggestion from Albury. I had a look at your suggestion Arnie, only think is it adds another 2.5 hours on to the trip.

Well, those are googlemap hours.  More like 2hrs or less biker time :-)
And, they're spread out over 3 days.

If the weather is kind, it would be no problem.  If its 35+ or raining, it might be.
In the end, its your decision.  Ride safe.

X-Ray

Ahhh ok, I've looked more closely at the map Arnie, yep it could be a goer. Certainly a lot more squiggly lines , which would be a good thing. I'll throw it out there for the ride party and see what we come up with. Actual distance more is only around 80kms.

If I take you up on your offer to stay at yours , maybe I could pick up Troy on the way down ?

Troy, will your arm be fixed up in time ??
Still thinking of something..................

Well March will be a month of many Km for me. The weekend before the FJ Rally is the KLR Rally in Kioloa south of Sydney. I will return to Brisbane and pick up the FJ and head down for the Mighty FJ Rally. Looking forward to riding with you all.

G'day Jools, Alf and I are leaving Thursday morning, heading to Corryony for an over-night stay then heading to Harrretville via the Mitta Mitta Rd. You and Troy are more than welcome to stay over here Wednesday night. That invitation is open to anyone else heading to the Rally needing a bed for Wednesday night. I think Troy's arm will be fine for the Rally but he's more qualified to answer that question. Keep in touch and we'll work out the finer details nearer to March.
Regards, Pete. :drinks:
