Vilike's FJ 1200 regenerating
« on: January 27, 2010, 05:22:25 AM »

Guys, the FJ is running again !  yahoo

Now there are some problems on the bike. As i told you in my introduction, the bird was wasting in a garage near the seaside in Italy. MORE THAN TEN YEARS LONG.

So the salty air had enogh time to work...
I need to fix all the electric connections, the exhaust collector needs welding, etc.

Did anyone have a situation like that ?

Yuk,  empathy3
Corroded copper sucks big time.
WD40 is your friend, but you will still have to
physically remove the green gunk from the copper.
Or sometimes a hydrochloric acid bath will help.
If the corrosion has got into the wiring, i.e under
the insulation, don't waste your time.  nea
Replace the entire wiring harness.

Yo!
I had to fix the exhaust collector's holes. It was a hard work but now its fine. I had to paint it with heat-resistant black paint.Tomorrow morning will be the electric power line's contact fixing time.
The horn works not, i have to fix it too...There will be no time for me to get bored !    biggrin

Okay i had to change the motor oil. I used Castrol Actevo GP 20W50. I had to check the magnet on the draining screw. It was clear as it would be new ! So there was no wearing...  good

Sorry for the long time silence from me guys. So the FJ is in use now, runs great, but i have some little troubles.

First, fuel consumption : Its clear for me that the bike's fuel indicator is inaccurate. It shows about 6-8 Liters less then the guessed data. I guess the bike eats about 6-7L/100 Kms.

Second, the headlight's SMALLER BULB is always going bad. I do not know why, maybe the headlight's bulb must be bigger Watt-numbered.

'checking in later.

I think the headlight problem may have something to do with your stock wiring.  I think I read before you had corrosion problems in your wiring.  Also make sure there is not at short in the wiring.  If there is no short, you may want to do the headlight relay mod - http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=660.0

This takes the load off your stock wiring and provides mort voltage to the headlight.  Should be brighter headlight and longer life at the same time!
