Hi all, I have a noise problem with my much loved FJ1100 84 model. At 60 kmph cruising along all is good, however when I accelerate over that in any gear a noise I can best describe as a howling noise cuts in, it's not a grind or a knock and it's quite loud. When I slow down to 40 kmph the noise stops. The bike runs fine even when the noise is present.  Thanks Heaps!

Frogger,

If you disconnect the speedometer cable and the noise stops, the instrument itself may be "howling."  I fixed mine, or you could pay to get it "repaired" (it probably needs lubrication).  Here's how:

Hey Red, seems like a few have had this issue, will disconnect and test. It makes quite a racket.
Thanks for your help, cheers from down under. :good2:

Cheers,

Good onya Red, that`s the exact post I was looking for.

Fwiw I went back on my search efforts on this subject and found by googling "whine fj owners" I got a different result because I was silly enough to put a space between "fj" and owners.....NO! I didn`t end up with subjects by Klavdy, what I got was this..... http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=649.0 which isn`t bad, just wanted the one you found.

How did you go about your search? This should be on a separate topic me thinks, so I might transfer to a new topic by cut and paste following your answer. (or maybe we already have a search tricks topic on here already?)....Suspect I`m not the only one that needs to be further educated on the subject of searching. (esp given my brain isn`t as good as it use ta be....too many memorybytes I suspect)

Edit: Derhhh......I just searched "search tricks fjowners" and got this http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=9726.5;wap2

Yeah, I`m waffling....sorry Klav....Must remember to hide my helmet at the next Rally!  (popcorn)

General,

I cheated, of course.  I wrote both posts, so it was just a matter of finding it in my list of old posts (in my profile).   :bye2:

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Hey Red,
Yeah it's the gauge, I'll follow your instruction for repair.
Thanks again.
