Is the smell raw gas or vapor fumes from the tank?

Raw gas: On your carbs, check the 4 small choke vent hoses and 2 large fuel bowl vent hoses to make sure they terminate down behind the engine, pointing to the ground. That way when they do dribble, you can see it on the floor. If not, the fuel can pool on the top of your engine case and evaporate without showing drops on the floor.

If your carb hoses are proper and you see nothing on the floor, check under your tank for leaks, fittings, fuel filter, fuel line, petcock, etc.

The smell of raw gas freaks me out. I don't stop until I figure out where it's coming from and fix it.
Fuel vapor smell (tank) does not concern me.
