Well, not great but it could have been a lot worse!  Steve aka Moparman had a chain break just outside Mendocino a bout an hour ago.  he was passing some cars when it snapped. Lost of oil all over the rear tire, but he stayed upright. A few of the boys are heading to Willits to mount a rescue party,  probably LAMike & a truck & ramp. Steve took it in stride, even as sue & I rode off, leaving him alone with a wounded FJ.  I _ guess_ we should go retrieve him ...

That's a bummer.  Glad Steve is alright. Thank goodness there is a lot of help for him there. Here is a digital beer for him  :drinks:.

Good to hear that Steve was able to get stopped without getting hurt.  :yahoo:

Sounds like the chain my have ended the life of the engine. :cray:

beyond glad to hear Steve's OK. Did the chain damage the engine case, sounds like it? I've never seen anyone oil their chain as much as he. That might explain the oil.

Sorry to hear that this has happened to you.  :ireful: It's always sad to see this happen to any bike, let alone an FJ. I could be wrong but that looks like a cheap chain. Can't see any brand name or chain size stamped on it. The premium chains always have either their brand name, size or both stamped. If this is the case, this should be a reminder to anyone contemplating buying a cheap under-rated chain.
Even if I'm wrong about the quality of the chain, it shows that the FJ has can be very hard on chains so good maintenance practices should be followed.
   Regards, Pete.
