Does the rear caliper have a newer style replacement?

Was curious if there is a known bolt on caliper that will replace the old FJ caliper. There is nothing wrong with my caliper, it would be purely for appearance as I'm weaning my bike off the old gold painted items. The blue dots in the front was a double bonus (no gold better brakes n newer look) was hoping to do the same on the rear. If it comes down to simply having to paint it, I'd almost just buy another stock caliper and powder coat it then switch it out? In any case the only gold left on my bike after the caliper will be the front rotors which more than likely I'll just paint.

Any of the earlier FJ rear calipers that aren't gold will work. Perhaps someone that's done a wheel mod has an old one laying around.

I think the YZF600 rear caliper will also work.  When I did the YZF rear wheel upgrade, the caliper I got had some bad scrapes on it.  I used the outside half of my stock FJ caliper and the inside half of the YZR caliper.

Only difference (besides the color) is the width of the slot.
I'm not sure if the YZF part will work with the FJ ventilated disc or not.   :unknown:

I have not seen any mention of someone swapping out JUST the rear caliper.  :unknown:

I have a spare OEM rear caliper, but as in the post, the problem is....it is Gold. I believe the 1100 and the '86/'87 1200's rear caliper is black in color.

You could go with a Suzuki caliper, they are black. :flag_of_truce: But then you would need to do the GSXR 17"x5.5" wheel mod.

Fred every time I look at pics of your mods I feel like I'm getting a behind the scenes look into a portion of the NASA program. While I would love to have that mod, I'm not sure I could afford all the parts. Looks awful fancy and technical, but hey maybe one day I can try to start gathering the parts needed, I do like the idea all around.

Its great when Fred shows up at a rally. He brings all the parts that did not make it onto one of his FJs. A modifiers garage sale, like a pimp or dealer pushing all the good stuff. I am guilty of getting some of his cast offs.

Here is a step by step write up. If you can remove your rear wheel for a tire change, you can do this mod.

As far as cost. I have recently done an eBay search for this exact mod. With all but a few parts coming from eBay and the few small parts from Partzilla. The cost is at $300.00 give or take $25.00

I just tried to source most of those parts for that mod and not seeing allot in the way of complete wheels with brakes. I did find a caliper but not the arm that the caliper bolts to. Also didnt see any wheels with a hub that the sprocket bolts to, I think I only found 3 wheels on ebay .

Can anyone here confirm that there is difference in slot width?
I am about to change rear rotor and do not know if there is need to replace caliper too if switching from dual vented to thinner rotor.  :unknown:
