Hi

I was looking for a winter project so I just bought a 1984 FJ1100 which needs some work but is in fairly good shape.  Engine and mechanical look to be in good condition.  A few of the initial issues are:

1. Fuel cap doesn't lock which seems to be a common problem
2. Brake light doesn't work
3. Signal switch is broken and choke switch needs some work
4. Needs to be repainted.
5. I'm sure I'll find more things to correct but that will be part of the fun.

Looking forward to getting some advice from the great folks on the forum.

regards

Bob

Welcome Bob, you will find plenty of help here and searching the site will provide a wealth of information and files.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Bob,

You can often find the signal switch/choke control assembly for sale used, on eBay (USA, and maybe in Canada).  If the eBay assembly is not 100% good, often you can build a good one from two bad ones.  That's what I did.

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Only the 1100s have the choke integrated into the turnsignal switch.  1200s will not interchange...fyi.

Great to know that there is a very large group here in Ontario.

I'm in North Bay but always in southern Ontario for business and always up for a ride.

Big progress tonight, I figured out how to get the seat off :yahoo:

Harald

Welcome, I have an 84 as well and live by St. Thomas in southern Ontario. Good luck with your bike. Mine is not quite stock any more, can never leave stuff alone.

Guys

Mine is certainly not entirely stock.  My goal is to get a reliable bike out of this build  Here is what I have right now,

FJ Bob

I'm going to start a build thread after Labour Day.

I really appreciate the local (Ontario) guys jumping in here.  I can see that part are going to be an issue in some cases and will be interested how or what you've done to solve problems that I'm sure will arise.

looking forward to get started with this,

Bob
