ANd again.....this time where it can be seen.....

I asked about the ignition module because with my '91 I am using a Dyna 2000 system which eliminates the OEM module. The way  mine is wired I have the same symptoms as you are describing..... it will only pump fuel with the fuel reserve switch in the RES position.

I have never bothered to track down the reason for this.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

It's your sending unit, it's not sending power to the relay that ultimately sends power to the fuel pump..

Mattman

Cool, Now I just wonder how to check the sending unit with an ohmmeter possibly? I wonder who sells new ones?

I hearing people say the sending unit is bad but the fuel gauge still works. ??

The fuel gauge sender is a totally separate unit to the low fuel warning light. (reserve function works in conjunction with the warning light) Although these two units are mounted on the same framework, they operate independently.

I was looking under the fairing and found a broken wire, green with a magenta stripe. So I pulled the fairing and found the wire broken from the fuel pump control unit assy. See attached pictures . So i hope that is the problem. In the mean time I scratched the meter cover pulling off the fairing. ugh anyone got one for sale or do you know where I can find one? lol this project keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Just to follow up....Today I attached the green wire with the magenta stripe back into the connector put the fairing back on and took her for a ride and walla! the reserve switch is operable in the run position ! ya
