Paint suggestions?

I am wanting to do some touch up on parts of my frame.  The majority (everything that can be seen) is in great shape but a few areas are in need of some paint.  Does anyone have suggestions on a paint that is close to factory spec (brand/colour code)?  I am hoping to get something in a spray paint...
Thanks,
Dean

I used the Silky White and Marble Silver for items on my '89 and had good results. The paint comes in cans or aerosol.

Hi Fred.
Thanks for the information with paint codes and link to Color rite.  However, being from Canada, the shipping is outrageous ($85.54) for 2 small touch up jars!! I really cannot see myself ordering from them.  Are there any other suggestions?  I am needing something close to the frame colour (marble silver).  It really does not have to be EXACT (Krylon, Tremclad options...).
Thanks,
Dean

If you take the paint codes into an automotive paint supplier, they should be able to match up something close that might be off the shelf.

I used Krylon 'aluminum silver' paint for frame rail touch up.

Follow Paul's advice for matching all other colors. Professional paint shops have the specialized equipment to analyze colors to a very, very close match to your original.

They nailed the 'Stormy Red' and 'Quartz Silver' colors on my '84 dead nuts. I was quite pleased.

Hope this helps.

Like Pat I have been using an aluminium silver paint, although over here mine is made by Killrust. It is slightly shinier than original, but I usually paint the whole front of the frame anyway, looks good.

I find the off the shelf aluminum/silver paints too bright. The nearest I have found to frame colour is Ford Argent Silver. You can buy it as VHT wheel paint, which is high temp polyurethane paint, it won't chip and has just the right gloss level. It is expensive though. Or, you can go to an automotive paint shop (not a spray shop but a paint supplier) and they will mix it for you and put it in a spray can. Then give it a layer of clear coat. This is probably the cheaper option. I find this colour indistinguishable from the original.

That's the colour on the swing arm:

That's a very pretty swingarm Noel, and your paint suggestion is exactly what I need to touch up the frame on my old FJ1100. But I'm more impressed with your grinding efforts on the can. Ride that thing like she was meant to be ridden!

I have found that the little spray cans that are way overpriced at a hobby shop do a great job.  The paint seems to come out in a finer mist and really goes on good for detail work.  I don't know but suspect that the nozzles are different for painting small models.  I should probably change a nozzle over to a regular can to see if there is a difference.  There are a lot of colors to choose from and have been happy with the durability of the products from Testors and Tamiya.  Testors makes a really nice clear too.

That is nice.  I bet they work good too.  I just use my airbrush now.
