Hi Guys !

I got the Swing arm of a VFR 750 RC36 fitted into my FJ1100 84 without any bigger problems. The Chain will run in one line with the Sprocket so its perfect.

The main problem is that I need a custom shock-linkage for this bike. My question is has anybody made this kind of Modifikation too and could help me out ? Maybe with some Fotos or the better with some drawings of that part !

Greetings from Austria !

Hello Igor,

Well now,  that's an ambitious project. What front end is that?
I recall 10 to 15 years ago, someone in the UK tried this type of swing arm mod on the FJ but they abandoned it...They were not happy with the results.
I suggest posting your question over on the UK FJ forum: http://www.fjfjrbiker.co.uk/ Someone over there may recall this mod.

Meantime, take lots of pictures for us, let us know how you're doing..

Cheers

Pat

Unfortunately, can't really see much of the linkage.

I looked at the parts breakdown for the 1991 VFR750F. From the diagram, it appears the Honda uses a similar linkage design to the 1988 and later FJ1200's.

I can't confirm if this suggestion will work, but I am pretty sure that it might work well.

Purchase all of the parts in the lower section of the diagram and assemble. You may need to add a washer or two as shims for the lower shock clevis to relay arm eye, or remove a small amount of material from the relay arm to fit the shock clevis.

I know a little bit about converting my '84 over to the late model swing arm dog bone linkage.
Pretty straight forward, except for finding a '89/'90 relay arm (#9 on the diagram)
That took me 5 months to find one.
Your shock on the '84 is centered. The shocks on the '89 and '90 are centered. Due to Yamaha needing to design room for the ABS pump, the shocks on the '91-95 are offset to the left, so the relay arm from those FJ's won't work....you need the '89/90 relay arm with the centered shock to use in your '84 frame.
You will also need a shock with a lower clevis mount to fit this relay arm.

Again, this mod looks interesting....I'm curious to see how it turns out.
I wonder what the weight difference is between the FJ aluminum swingers and this Honda swinger?

Pat, is there a thread of your modification? Send a link, please, if there is one.
