new Schuberth helmet

Finally got around to buying a new helmet.  The old Shoei was getting close to 7 years old.  Took the new Schuberth S2 Sport Drag out for a first ride today.  It's amazing how much a new helmet can effect your riding experience.  Love the clear visor and the shaded flip-down visor feature.  Now I don't have to worry about carrying a clear visor in case I ride too far away from home before the sun goes down.

Beautiful hat. I went with the Shoie RF1200 again after wearing a Bell for many years, mostly due to reviews about quietness, and the availability of the Transition face shield. Two of the things I couldn't ride without are a Transitions shield, and the pinlock fog shield. These two items (along with the bluetooth phone connectivity through a Sena 10s) have completely changed riding for me. I love not even thinking about the sunlight, and never having a hint of fog inside the helmet. In the winter I make sure to wear gloves with a wiper feature on the left thumb and I'm set for whatever mother nature throws my way.

My helmet came with that small shield that attaches to the inside of the clear visor but no explanation as to what it did.  Now I know, although the humidity is usually so low here in SoCal I can't remember the last time fog was a problem.  Looked at the RF1200 in its many graphics designs both at the Cycle Gear store and on-line but went with the Schuberth because it was being offered at a really good price on a close-up special.

Rick, does that have the emergency quick release system? I reckon this is one of the best safety features on helmets since the full face.

Yes, I didn't realize that feature until I opened the box. A couple of bright red straps under the chin connected to the cheek pads. I think you can see a hint of one in the picture above.

My search included the Schuberth as well. Very nice helmets with a good rep. Here in NorCal, we get some pretty bad fog, as well as microclimates where the temp can go from 35 degrees in the morning commute to 75 degrees on the way home in the afternoon. I struggled with fogging for years before I discovered the pinlock. I don't know how I ever managed without it. I used to have to crack open the visor in 35 degree temps to keep from fogging. Fuck that. Now no matter how warm my breath is, no fog.

Another well spent $15 was a fleece collar that closes off any drafts coming up under my chin.
