Are You Absolutely Sure its the Only thing then.. For memory when I had my 84 apart this year for greasing of all linkages and replacement of bearings, Swing Arm are Needle but Linkages are Nylon. |

I've owned my '84 for a few years now, so I'm not dreaming this shit up. |

Most of the Japanese bikes manufactured in the 70's and early 80's came with nylon swing arm bushings. I replaced the nylon bushings on my 1981 Yamaha XS650 with bronze ones from an aftermarket supplier. Does anyone make bronze replacement bushings for the early FJ's?

Don't know about brass replacements Dave.
Someone posted last week something about using needle bearings out of a Kawasaki or Honda as a retrofit for the Yamaha nylon bushings....
....Or just buy the linkage off a '86/87

Could be my mistake. Not enough sleep and misreading your post. I know I had pin bearings as they ended up on my shed floor. But were from the main pivot point.it was 3 years and many other mods ago.

I would like to do a write up on what to use for replacing the nylon bushings for the 84/85 folks.
Those bushings ain't getting any younger.

If I can get an old set of bearings I can see if the sizes are available from my bearing supplier. They have composite bearings that are better than the old Nylon ones of old. Anyone have a set I can borrow?

I've long thought bushes (not nylon) would work much better here than needle rollers, like king pin bushes and for the same reason. One of the problems is that the swing arm only rotates through a few degrees and as such leads to this sort of damage.  Noel |

Did they balance the wheel? first i would check if there are some new weights on the rim if not they didn't.I have heard people saying that its not necessary to balance a motorcycle wheel that's bullshit!.
You can easily balance the wheel yourself just take it off run the axlebolt Thru and hang it between 2 carstands or chairs hanging on the axle ends (it also helps if you have some old wheelbearings on the axle ).Then you rotate the wheel slowly and se if it have a heavy point .Then if it has you add balance weights on the opposite side (upper side) until its gone.Mayby a bad explanation but google it ...
I have had bad vibrations at higher speed that was caused by unbalanced wheel.

As I orderd my swing arm bushing from rpm along with the brass bushing in the clutch handle assembly.I've dicoverd my vibration was from my #4 carb pilot jet had what I think is a piece of rubber from my fuel line in it.all's good
