Latest addition to the stable
« on: January 09, 2019, 05:01:34 AM »

Just thought I'd show you my latest bike. A resto mod Cushman. Guy at work stuck tons of money into it. Paid some guy that has a world record Cushman. If I remember right $3000. To hop up the engine. Billet head, ported, polished, stroked, bigger carb, and a clutch. Has billet wheels. So he could put tires on it with a higher speed rating. He wanted to go 90 mph. The guy gave him some taller gears. And he said he got it up to 80. But he couldn't understand. With all the money he put into the motor. Why it would barely take off. I knew they had transmissions on some of them. But his didn't have one. I told him get all the parts and put the transmission in it. He never did. I told him to put the old sprockets back on to be able to ride it. Which he did but then it would only do 50 or something. So he quit riding it. And bought a triumph speed cripple. It's been sitting in the back of his garage for a few years. He couldn't get it started. So he came into work and said $500 and the Cushman is yours. I couldn't afford $500 because every penny is going into the house. But I couldn't pass up that kind of a deal So...

WOW. What a nice looking Cushman. Always wanted one and when I was a kid there were still quite a few around. If I had known they were going to be so collectible I would have bought a few as they were cheap back then. Great deal Dan.

It's a Pacemaker because it doesn't have the transmission. If it had the transmission it would be a Road King. I can't remember what year he said it was.59?

Of course, even though I don't have the Cushman in my shop. Because my shop isn't done yet. He said he would keep it in his garage until I was done.
I took my own advice and bought a complete roadking transmission setup. All the linkages, pulleys, lever, peddle and transmission. Then I found completely rebuilt transmission. So I bought that. Now I've got more into the transmission $650. Than the price of the Cushman itself $500.

Yet another project on hold until I get the house/shop done.  wacko1

FFS Dan, a 60 year old Cushman that goes 90 mph.....what could possibly go wrong?
In my mother voice: Danny boyo, get all your projects and chores done before you ride that mofo....

He has disc brakes to go on the billet wheels. But he never put them on. I would just gear it to go 65ish. In second gear. So it would still be fun in first gear  around town, with the hopped up motor. Woohoo.

Not a lot of gyroscopic stability with those tiny wheels so add a steering stabilizer to your list.

Keep the front end wobbles away you crazy man!

Don't have any good pictures of the mini chopper that I made for my daughter.(she rode it on our dead end road and got scared of it) but it'll do 65 mph all day. It's way less stable. Especially with that back tire.

LOL Dan, my wife sat on our neighbours "chopper" mini-bike recently - its "named" as a Honda Davidson on the petrol tank and it's a direct-from-the-factory Chinese import. It has what looks like a V-twin engine, but the rear cylinder is actually just the air filter box and the front cylinder provides the full and awesome mocking 50cc of arm-wrenching engine power this thing can deliver.

Riding it is a nightmare (its so small, but long, that U-turns are all but impossible on our roads) and great fun for anyone watching, but not much fum for anyone riding.

My mini beast has a 150cc five speed. And is truly scary toped out.(65mph) It started out as a Chinese chopper. But my daughter 12 years old at the time, and I made it to look like my chopper Demon Angel. Had to make more by hand for the mini. Than when I built my chopper. Some of the things I made for the mini:
Narrowed the rear fender and cut the devil's tail. Then mounted it to the swingarm.
Lowered the rear suspension.
Mounted the lisense plate brak light, turn signals to the swingarm
ran wiring and brakeline inside the swingarm.
Alligator skin left over from my chopper. On the seat. And stainless tribal seat back.
Made intake out of spun stainless cone, stainless tubing, and k&n filter.
Tribal metalwork in neck of frame.
Ran throttle cable through frame
Hand made (with chop saw and belt sander) stainless z-bars.
Hand made mirror clamps with buttons for turnsignals built into each side, and starter button. Internal wiring in z-bars.
Front turn signals replaced upper triple clamp pinch bolts.
More that I can't remember I'm sure.
Oh yah had Blainiack pant it to match Demon Angel. But since it was supposed to be for my daughter. Had him paint Lil Demon with clothes on. And I made all of the points rounded off.
