Even if you do need to buy them, it is rarely needed more than 2-3 pieces. Most can be swapped between valves.

I'm adjusting the valves on my new fj1100 loaner bike and my#3 cylinder #2 intake valve was too loose with a 265 mm shim and too tight with a 270 mm shim.most normal people would put the 265 mm shim in and not worry about it,but it bothers me to be out of spec.I went to my local Yamaha dealer and he brought out a box of 25mm shims for Triumphs and they had most of the half sizes.I now have,2.35,2.40,242.5,245,247.5,250,255,260,262.5,265,267.5,270,272,272.5,275.I don't know if all triumph dealers carry these sizes but it's worth asking.they charged me $ 4.50 each.

Interesting....I know my old CBX used shims that were identical to FJ shims.  I wonder what other makes used similar shims?  Also, I mic all my shims and find there are significant differences between what is stamped on them and what they actually measure out as.

Re shims and clearance, my old push rod triple takes a .006 and .008 but it is the norm to increase this one or two thou, is this so with the 1100's?

RPM - Robert

248 does not exist in Yamaha size. 200-250 and 295-320 are in .05mm The 252-292 come in the half sizes as well as the .05mm increments.

T Legg

If you need the 248 call your local triumph dealer
