Ever try one Rick? If so, what did you not like?
I have never tried one, so I have no opinion. I'll keep an open mind.
I can appreciate the logic of not looking down, taking your eyes off the road and focusing your vision on the GPS map displayed on your iPhone.

I learned my lesson on preconceived opinions...I distinctly remember thinking that grip heaters and electric vests were for pussies.

Nope, never tried one, and I likely won't. Maybe if I rode a Beemer, or a fancy new Ducati, but I'm stuck in the 90's, and I like it that way.

On sale for somewhere between $1,089 to $1,361. I guess the target market is BMW and Ducati riders. I don't think I will be buying one anytime soon. By the time the price is low enough to have this on every helmet I will be to old to ride. For this price I would at least expect to have my SPEED displayed. If they would have a HUD display of available weapons and a sighting system for cagers on cell phones I would buy one today.

A pistol is like a parachute, if you need one and don't have one you will never need one again.

That price, and considering that helmets are often one-time-use-only.  Coupled with the thought that helmets are supposed to be swapped out every 5 years.....

Pat, the one thing they don't seem to address is a visor is way too close to focus on, that's why VR goggles and military pilot helmet mounted HUD's are further away from the eye. At our age, the nearest clear focal point is probably arms length away.

I have said repeatedly, this is the best money I ever spent on the FJ (and probably the least), a GPS/HUD speedo....

FJ1200

Works in full sun from any angle without the dark tinted patch.

It doesn't work on all screens but a GPS digital speedo ($50 or less) plonked on top of the instruments does much the same thing.
I've had that for years and there's not a day I ride it that it doesn't make me smile at just what a great improvement it is.

....and GPS.

Pat, just last night I was reading through a file of replies I never actually posted and found one of you bagging GPS in favour of paper maps, it was quite a few years back.

Yes, I'm a Luddite, I still like my paper maps, in the morning, with my eggs and coffee...I make notes and refer to those notes on the ride. That's easier (for me) than trying to read a map while moving.

I have always appreciated GPS in my car, was unsure about GPS on bikes, but a recent experience changed my mind. I went out for a ride thru southern Arizona, beautiful ride, long day, I ended up in Tucson, AZ, downtown Tucson at 20:00hrs and I was tired. I needed to find a restaurant to meet some folks...unfamiliar city at night, downtown fucking traffic, hungry, tired, running late, past my bed time, missed my afternoon nap, cranky.....

Yea, there's a time and place for GPS on my bike....I just don't want to look down. The audio directions thru my Sena helmet speakers are helpful but not enough.

I like to be riding when I am riding not paying attention to whats on the I-pod or looking to take a call. I only listen to the radio on my wing, otherwise I listen to the bike and the voices in my head...

That's a heck of a ride! Me and my brother recently took a trip down to Tombstone AZ, and I like paper maps too. I would just refer to the map as we went, but I'm by no means opposed to GPS. If i could have GPS on a HUD, that would be cool, I think!

Hi Ryan, yep, a long day for sure....left Palm Desert at 0400 and traveling east, watching the eastern horizon change colors in a beautiful (beyond words) sunrise....

I'm toasty warm with my grip heaters and electric vest, my FJ singing her happy kookaloo song, while the sun is rising over the desert....

I use the google maps, before I ride, all the way down to street view so I can recognize landmarks, but I prefer to see the scenery along the way, so I tuck the phone away in the bag and turn on the tunes. I like my Shoie RF1200, and I use the pinlock insert inside a very expensive auto-darkening visor and that setup, along with the Sena bluetooth has transformed riding for me. It'll take something really innovative to make me want to change my setup. Oh, I also like the bullet dashcam that loops continuously for recording stupidity on my daily commute. Shit, I have the heated grips and thermal onesie, I guess I take it all back. I think I just realized I'm not as hardcore as I thought... maybe if I lick my brake hose...

Pat, I have a glove for you that will make the riding even better.  :good2:

Since I started riding everyday I have found them to be a nice addition to the grip warmers. I wear the everyday, at least during the cold season. I will have a write up for you guys in the next couple of weeks.
