Just bought a 1985 FJ1100, thought I better join up on a FJ owners forum. I'm sure I will have a few questions, and a lot of reading up on these bikes. I bought the bike from the original owner, has 25,000 miles on the bike, 100 miles on a complete new HP engine. The PO put a ton of money and time into it. Has a 1315cc big bore kit, Vance & Hines did the cylinder head back in the day, some sort of HP cams (not sure yet on those specs) , Falicon rods and crank and clutch basket, R&D transmission, Supertrap exhaust, Mikuni RS40 flat slide carbs, Performance Machine 17" wheels, new tires, Performance Machine front brakes and SS lines, Works Performance rear shock, forks rebuilt/revalved with Progressive springs. On the dyno it makes 167 HP to the wheel. Beings I've never owned a FJ, not sure what to expect from a build like this? I think these bikes were rated at 125 HP stock at the engine, so a stock FJ1100 would be about 110 HP to the wheel? Any idea what kind of 1/4 mile times I should expect?

Hmm, I just tried posting a picture of my bike, but it won't let me.... does it have to be from a photo hosting site? Or can I just choose a picture off my IPhone I'm using now?

That does indeed look an awesome bike !! And what a great specification - bet with Pee Wee Gleason in the saddle it would have run a 9s 1/4 mile...."back in the day".

But, the bike is about so much more than 1/4 mile times - with your wheel/tyre/suspension/brake set up, your bike will be massively capable in the twisties as well as on the interstate.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum  :good2:

That's gonna be one awesome ride!  As Dean stated, FJ's are so much more than a drag bike.  They shine in the sport touring usage.  Take it easy while learning what the machine is and is not capable of.  You're gonna love the Kookalo moment.

Welcome to the forum  :hi:

Have you thought about removing the FJ1100 decals and replacing them with a FJ1314 decal? There is a member here that is from Australia that has done custom decals for a few members. Jeff0308 is his screen name.

Photos are samples of his work.

Hmm, they look ok.... but I kinda like the sleeper look.... it's just an old FJ, it can't be that fast? :)

As a GSXR 1000 rider found out a few years back following me two-up with my son on the back - the FJ swallowed bumpy/rippled corners with all that weight, better than an overly-stiffly sprung sports bike with a lightweight jockey. That GSXR was bucking and weaving all over the place....as he fell further and further behind us

The beauty of it was, I want even trying to lose him and it was only when we stopped at Devils Bridge for a coffee that he told us, through shaky hands and an even shakier voice, how he couldn't keep up with our big old FJ
