Highway Pegs

Hey all, I have a set of Renntec bars coming in next week. I want to mount highway pegs to them, but I cant seem to find the way that others have done it. Is it a bad idea to drill a hole through the bars to mount them, or should i really only consider pegs that grip around the bar?

I do what to do some auxiliary lights in the future, so that's a thought as well?

Thanks,
Ryan

Yeah you got long legs Ryan.  Do you get leg cramps on the long trips?

Like crazy Joe. The first few hundred miles are okay, but after that, my hips start crampings, and then everything else follows.

I welded plates in the triangle in the front of the bars  not a very good picture but I think you can tell where. Used Fj passenger pegs.

Nice work GK.

Ryan, all my tall friends ride HD baggers with forward controls.  Kinda says something huh?  If I faintly recall, I think Pat used the Buell foot pegs along with other member(s).  Hopefully Pat will chime in too.

Yep, as Joe said, I use the Buell pegs which are about 1.5"  lower than the oem pegs.

You would think 1.5" would not be of any help, but it's amazing what a difference it makes.

I use a set of Buell Ulysses lowered foot pegs, ( the Ulysses version is wider and more similar to the OEM pegs ). As Pat mentions, the inch and a half of lowered pegs really does make a difference.

Something else that I have found that makes a difference in Long distance comfort. Do not use a Corbin seat. Put the OEM seat on and add an Air Hawk seat cushion. Like the foot pegs but in reverse. The OEM seat is taller than a Corbin, plus you get an additional 1/2 to 1 inch of added seat height with the Air Hawk.

Hey all, here is what I ended up doing, for now. I disnt want to weld them permanently, and i wanted to use the FJ passenger pegs so that they match. I got a pair from another member here in Phoenix (thanks Mike!), and bough some HD bar clamps. May change it, have to see how they work out.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit! There are a few things to sort, IE 2nd gear, front forks, battery and charging, ect, but man, do I sure look a helluva lot better riding down the road! I can actually justify buying things that I couldn't before because the bike is mostly where I want, cosmetically.

Ryan, I did exactly what you have done with the highway pegs, but quickly removed them after convincing myself that in a drop they'd likely twist round and punch a hole through the engine, there by negating the whole idea of protection bars.
As for seats, I like the Corbin, but Fred's airhawk probably does a great, if not greater job. I even thought about one of those purple cushion things. Anybody tried one? I suspect they are much like an airhawk......maybe.

For those that don't have renntec bars. I made highway pegs. Using Fj engine mount plates trimmed up turned around and I believe swapped sides they have the perfect angle built in. I think I did a write up. But was a long time ago. And I don't know how to bring a link here. I have a bunch of pictures in my images on the forum. I haven't been able to bring pic's to a post from the images for a while. but I'll give it a shot.http://
Got one to work. Don't know how to fix the other
