Finding a 1984 FJ100

Has anyone tried finding an old FJ by using the serial number?

My dad had one of the first FJ1100's.  He says the serial number ended with 000125.  He nearly sent his ex-wife (before my time) into orbit by hitting a 'bump' at 130mph, tried to hit top speed every day on his way to work, then met my mom  while he still had the bike.  Put something like 10,000 miles on the bike one summer going to see her all the time.  I think he sold it not long after I was born, 1986.

He's retiring this year and I think it would be cool to give him a project.  A different 1100 would be cool, but finding his original one would probably be the coolest thing ever.  He eventually got an 87 FJ1200, but talks about the 84 a lot more.

Any ideas?

If you know a LEO, in Ca, they can search records on a department computer or their patrol car computer using a VIN sequence.  Not supposed to do it for anything other than police business so just asking an officer likely won't help.

High pat.I thought my two 84 fj1100's were manufactured twelve units apart but when I looked closer there were differences between one of the other digits of the vin numbers. My vins are JYA50H003EA002648, and JYA50H004EA002660 .Do you know what the difference means between 003EA and 004EA?

Hey Travis, sorry, I don't know.

Have you seen this? http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=13764.0

Ryan, isn't that cool?
I'll bet our bikes were made on the same day. I got a good one, so you did too.

I've no idea either, but my best guess would be that one of them went to California and had the Cali emission mods, and the other to a different state.

You know Fred, that got me thinking, and I started poking around Craigslist. Maybe OP can message, and ask for the last 6 of vin on these bikes?

Heres one in Atlanta---https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/mcy/d/lavonia-1984-fj1100-trade-for-f150/6872840597.html

This guy has an engine, maybe grab the engine numbers?--https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/mpo/d/san-jose-yamaha-fj-fjr-85-honda-vf1000r/6885397269.html

Heres one in Seattle--https://skagit.craigslist.org/mpo/d/mount-vernon-1984-yamaha-fj1100/6882634048.html

I've contacted a few of the Craigslist posts just in case I get lucky, but nothing so far.  I'm pretty sure that it had over 20k miles when he got rid of it.

My uncle has a friend that was (is?) a P.I.  They are allowed to find information based on the VIN so I'm waiting to hear back from him.

I had a private investigator look through state records and there was no information matching the VIN.  If a vehicle isn't registered for about 8 years the information gets dumped.  Probably won't have any luck finding it.

This bike might not be in a scrap pile yet, but it will sure be difficult to find.
