For a '93, should the oil pan be black or natural?

They should come from Yamaha as Black. If you get one from an XJR it will be natural Aluminum colored.

I don't know that this is true Fred. The three 89s here, along with the 90, two 91s, and 93 here all have silver. Both the 86s are black.

Pat Conlon

How come mine is polished?

Oh wait....never mind....

As Robert already mentioned,  oil pans painted black came on the 84-86 models.

After that,  they are all unpainted.

Pat's is polished and mine is yellow.

At the end of the day,  it doesn't matter what color it is.

Just get one with a helicoiled drain plug
life without a bike is just life

Tuned forks

I did, used Robert's Roadside Repair Service for an amazingly clean and freshly helicoiled oil pan.

Because you have a twisted sense of humor and I couldn't believe Yamaha would paint an oil pan yellow.
