Steering damper
« on: March 28, 2020, 01:07:21 PM »

Has anyone ever mounted this on the FJ ??
If yes, where is it better to do it ?? I have not found any arguments about it but I need it to not lick the asphalt ...

Thank you! bye

No one has ever needed one on the FJ**. It is a supremely stable motorcycle

If you need a steering damper on your FJ, something is wrong.

*** except (IIRC) Doc Hacker’s race bike. He cut the neck off of his FJ and welded on a steeper angle neck for track racing.

I rarely squeeze my FJ but from 190 upwards, at times, it seems to me that the steering is a little too light and worrying ...

190kph =118mph it becomes all about airflow. FJ’s are just getting their second wind at 120mph.
My 1984 FJ1100 squats down lower as speeds get higher.
I have never had a problem with air getting under my front end at high speed (160mph)
I can run wfo with a 180/55 rear tire and 18/40 gearing @ 9500rpm (my speedo is useless)

Rock stable.

Time to inspect/re tighten/replace steering head bearings?

Also worn rear suspension linkage bearings can make the FJ wander.

I’ve fitted a steering damper to the FJ1100 race bike - but only because it was required to pass tech.  Never needed it, and keep it at the loosest setting to prevent any unwanted weave.

Rock stable.

I've been called a lot of things, but stable's not one of them...
