This last month I bought a 1991 FJ 1200. I like this bike, I don't want put the wrong parts or the wrong tires on it. I have found a mechanic that has an excellent reputation. I'm on his waiting list. He only works on 1 bike at a time. So, I need to start gathering up the parts I need. I was told by the previous owner that I would need the intake manifolds for the carburetors, one has a slight leak when cold. He also told me that I need to have proper valve maintenance, new seals ect. There is also something with some O-rings on bolts with the head??? The tires are a few years old and need to be replaced, here are the size tires that are mounted now rear 160/80-16 and the front is 120/70-17. I would greatly appreciate and advice to point me in the correct direction. I don't won't screw this bike up.

Thanks,
FCBIII

Welcome, beautiful bike. You'll love it.

RPM (The sponsor) has everything you need at a excellent price. Their product quality is better than going the cheapest route.

Starting a list, in your sequence.

Intake manifolds are pricey. Don't fall for the cheap set on Amazon, they're incorrect as the ID is way too small.

Valve adjustment - You'll want a new valve cover gasket as well as the 8 of the valve cover bolt grommets.

Spin on oil filter adapter, if one is not already on there.

I like the big filter, although it is more of a challenge to get off. Still easier than stock.

And there is a magnet if desired

Flush both brake systems, normal checks, great motorcycles with a lot of support here.

Tires, I run Avon Spirits. Plenty of good tires out there.

Also, this fork brace is worth the money IMO. Just really seems to tighten up the front end.

You might also want to have the forks drained and serviced. This is the best way to go on that and it will make your technician happy.

Don't forget the copper washers, you'll need two.

A good friend gave me this shirt from your neck of the woods - He passed away a few years ago. It's almost as far for me as it would be for you. 6 1/2 hours from me, probably close to 5 for you.

Again, welcome.

QuoteSkullbone is an unincorporated community in Gibson County, Tennessee, United States. It is located to the east of Bradford and is centered on Tennessee State Route 105. It was also known as North Gibson and Skin Bone.

The name was changed to Skullbone officially on April 26, 1898, when a United States Post Office opened there. The post office at Skullbone remained operational until December 24, 1903. The name has come into use as a reflection of local "bare-knuckle" fights held in the community, where strikes to the skull were common.

Skullbone has long been known in local circles as "The Capital of the Kingdom of Skullbonia." The so-called "kingdom" is a vaguely defined area of northeastern Gibson County and, according to some, adjacent portions of neighboring counties. Hampton's Store, the only business currently operating in the community has elaborate murals painted on the side of the building depicting the Kingdom of Skullbonia's domain, bare-knuckle fighters, as well as declaring that there is a "Mayor's Office Upstairs," though it is unincorporated and has no elected council or mayor.

Another attraction that can be found in Skullbone is the famed signs which sit at the intersection of Skullbone Road and Tennessee State Route 105. These signs give the mileage from Skullbone to many major cities throughout the world such as Calcutta, India (10,281 miles; 16545.7 km) and Jerusalem, Israel (6,869 miles; 11054.6 km) as well as local and regional communities and cities like Bradford (3 miles; 4.8 km), and Memphis (108 miles; 173.8 km).

I need to make the trip

Welcome!

Verify you need intake manifolds before dropping that much money — maybe all you need is to replace the o-rings.

The 0-rings he mentioned are probably the valve cover bolt grommets.  They get brittle from the heat and crack and leak.  They are #22 in the diagram:
22: RUBBER,MOUNT 1 2GH-1111G-00-00

Look to be about $6/each.

Welcome to the Forum  :hi:

All good advice given for your questions. I would add.... service your forward engine mount bushings. This will help tremendously with vibrations in the handlebars.

When you have the funds:
Lubricate wheel bearings (if they aren't sealed.)
Lubricate steering head bearings.
Remove swing arm and suspension bits... clean/lubricate/replace bearings & bushings as needed.

Ooh nice one Fred on the mount lube. Been meaning to do 1991 model, but thought it sounded like an engine out deal, which is something I dont have the time for.
Welcome FCB.
The Fj is one of those motorcycles that given care, really rewards the rider. Every little tweak, nudge, clean, mod, etc,  transmits itself straight back as noticeable improvement.
I'll go plus one on check wheel and head race bearings.
Plus another on fork brace.
