Hi, my name is Diederik, I live in Haarlem, Netherlands and since last year I am the owner of a FJ1200 from 1987. I als own a couple of XJ900 F, and a XS650 with side-car. My regular bike is a XJ900 F, the FJ1200 is for fun rides. It has been neglected by the previous owner so it needs a lot of TLC. Did the carburettors, oil, spark plugs, air filter etc. Now I,m going to do a overhaul of the starter motor and the clutch reservoir.

Diederik,

Welcome to the FJ sandbox!  Pull up a seat, and be among friends.
You can find many repair procedures written here, to help if you need it.  RPM (the top banner link) has many specific parts for the FJ.

Instead of an overhaul, you might want to upgrade the starter to the four-brush version of the starter, unless you have that type of starter already.
We have many ways to help you spend your money.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Hallo Diederik
Welkom, zijn een aantal uit Nederland lid van dit forum, zeer veel hier opgedaan....will continue in English, nice to have another guy from the Netherlands here, like stated before, swap the startermotor for the faster cranking one, I did that, makes a big difference, also put 4 relays in the FJ, for Headlight, low and high beam , power to the coils, pickup sensor for the voltage regulator, all works fine now, no overloading of the battery, good stable headlight, even at low revs, stable and good power to the sparkplugs, mine runs , when cold at 500 rpm, without stalling.
Cheers, Tom.
