Bill, the RSS icon is usually up in the toolbar of your browser of choice.  There has never been one specifically on this forum site...though as you know...it is completely RSS compatible.  I just added a MOD that put an orange RSS feed icon next to each Category, so people can easily subscribe to individual sections.  Tell me people...is this a good thing?  How many people use RSS here I wonder?

Thanks again

Bill, HA!  That is where mine is too: "beside the little house and between the little printer"    biggrin

I'm running a quick and dirty Poll to see if others would want to keep those little orange RSS icons there...   Thanks for bringing this topic up!   good2  RSS feeds would be a pretty good way for the old Yahoo stalwarts to enjoy this forum.  But I'm not going to teach RSS...we have WAY too many good IT guys here that could teach/explain it better than me....

And to be honest, I don't use RSS in my daily life myself...I build it into websites for clients but don't actually use it.  Maybe I should...seems convenient.  Someone enlighten me/us on how it makes your life better!   scratch_one-s_head

...with firefox there is a plugin called sage.   Instead of getting emailed for every update via RSS feed.   I go into my browser and  hit the 'load/reload' button and it scans all of my 'rss feed' sites and then bolds up any new entries.  nice for sites that don't get updates/articles everyday.  This site is updated virtually on the hour so I am stopping in anyway so an RSS feed is futile in my view here.   Lets face it... who doesn't read every section, if not every thread...   yes    it is a nice way to check a load of sites at the single click.

I find that the RSS feed is actually useful. In my RSS reader I can see the titles of all the posts for each section, with the unread ones highlighted. Also, it is a central place where I read a number of other feeds, so very convenient.

Two things make it less useful than it could be: the name of the person posting ("author") is missing from my view. And the whole web page loads when I click the "Complete Story..." link, rather than the single posting. However, it is nice that the page loads up in my browser centered on the posting, so it's not too bad.

I would add a screenshot of the view from my RSS reader but can't find the button to upload it.

the main website loads all new message threads in bold as well as marking each new post with a "new" tab .... without RSS

Me neither...but I wanted to run the poll to see if it was of value to users of this forum.  So far, the consensus is no.  I'll give it a little longer for people to weigh in before taking them off...

The little flags are really unnecessary. Once you've used one to subscribe to the feed for a given topic, you'll never need to again. The individual flags *do* make it convenient for new users to subscribe to a given topic, but all that is really needed is a link to subscribe to all the feeds. At that point, the user can go into his RSS reader and delete any unwanted feeds.

But, really, what are a few static flags compared to the mass of distracting emoticons when replying to a post...

Marsh
I don't need the flags all over , it might junk up the lay out!

I just use the icon in my browser to link up.  I just forgot where I got it from and thought it was from the web site or group that you view.

Thanks again
