Anyone have a preferred tool to use? Denniskirk had one for $68, but are out of stock and not sure when they'll get them in. I've already ordered my new sprockets, so I want to order the chain and tool as well so I can be back on the road next weekend.

I'm going to order the RK 530XSOZ1 X-Ring Chain

I have a  motion pro clone off of ebay works just fine.  If your old chain has a riveted master link you should grind off the pins then press out the link.
I only use the motion pro clone to expand the master link pins to size..

Data point:   I have the motion pro kit.   Does the job.   I share with a few local riding buddies.   Have to be a little bit careful with the 'pins' as we've broken one and was able to order just the bit that was broken.   Pricey at ~$100 but I think between all of us, we've made it worth the money...   If it were stolen, I would likely replace it with the same.  If you are dumping the old chain (as I often do)  instead of griding out the old rivets to break the chain, I just use a cut off wheel and cut the side plates to open the chain.   Just a bit faster for me and a good excuse to pull out the power tools.     :i_am_so_happy:

I have a chinese motion pro knockoff had it about 5 years..  $45 or so on ebay iirc.  Have only used it maybe a dozen times including loan-outs.

I typically use a grinder to cut the old chain off which is faster than trying to get the old master apart... mostly I only use the tool to peen the pins of the new master, but it is totally worth having just for that.

I plan to just grind out my old chain. It has well over 20k miles on it. I see no need in saving it for anything.

I went ahead and ordered the Motion Pro Chain Riveting tool, part# 28350 from Denniskirk.
I'll post up when I get it and how I like it. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but over a few years/chains, it'll pay for itself.

Going to be interested in seeing how this RK X-ring chain does.

I have this one...

Worked exceedingly well and was very easy.  I just used the dremel to grind off one side pretty much anywhere and pushed the pin out.  Was my first time and all tolled, it took maybe 15 minutes with reading the directions and figuring out the piecesparts.  Think I got it from riderwarehouse maybe?

I use bolt cutters.  Don't get cheap Chinese ones, the cutting edge tends to shatter while cutting.  Be sure to wear eye protection.  By the time the other guys have their power tools out, I'm taking the front sprocket off.
