Police State
« on: October 06, 2010, 08:21:24 AM »

My story starts back to last sunday when my sons car needed some repairs to the brake system.
After completing the needed repairs. I decided to give the car a test drive to ensure its safe operation before returning it to my son.

It was about 8:45pm in my sleepy little town of 800 people as I was driving up main street when I notice a road construction sign, which for his part of town is unusual, so I decided to see what it was all about.

As I got closer, I saw that the road was closed at the next block, so I turned on to a side street and proceeded up the next available ally.
Just as I was making my turn into the alley, a county deputy emerged from the same alley, opposite side of the street and began to follow me
.
Me, thinking he would just turn again in a different direction at the next intersection didn't concern me, as I had done nothing wrong to worry about, but no, he follows my every move, and with me still more focused on the reason for the road closed sign, and the on going construction, I wanted to find a decent out of the way to stop and have a look around.
I pull up near the old depot in town where me and my son had spent nearly two month repaving the brick platform.
This, I felt was a good stopping point, close enough to the construction without being in the way, cop pulls right up next to me, so I get out of the car, engine running and lights still on, wearing my work uniform with my name on my shirt, to see why he has followed me up to this point.

He gets out of his car and asked me why I parked here, and explained to him the the construction peaked my interest and wanted to get out and take a look.

Then he asked why, if I were interested in the construction, I parked so far away by parking where I did.
I tried to explain to him that me and my son had spent alot of time on this platform, so I was familiar with the location, but he cut me short, and told me that this business was closed and I had to leave, NOW!

At this point I felt he was pushing me for no reason and I asked him if he knew who (the name of the senior deputy, by name, but won't say here) is and he said he didn't care WHO he is, only to repeat to me by telling me to leave the area because I was a suspicious vehicle and I had no reason to be where I was ant this time of night!

I told him that the senior deputy was my brother in law and told him to call him down here to see just how suspicious I was!
I asked him, just what have I done wrong!
He repeats, leave this area! Without ever telling me what I have done wrong, he just wanted me to leave!
 Is this FREEDOM?

Leave, just because he says so? BS, :25signhellnoway:

I told him that he had no cause to be harassing me like this, and e proceeded to get into his car and leave as I still stood there, getting his ID number off of his car as he drove away.

I then returned home, just pissed, to having gone through this BS, treated like a criminal in my own home town for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

Whatever happened to "Protect and Serve"?
Instead, you are guilty until proven innocent!

On my way home I count two county deputies patrolling and this is over kill for our small community IMO!

I'm sure he was just mad at the fact I stood up to him and put him up to the task to explain HIS reasons for following me.

I could see maybe a car with different county plates or an obvious attempt to elude him once he started to follow me, but I did neither, I stopped at my earliest convenience to see what he wanted, without driving to far away from my intended goal, the construction site.

Welcome to the United Nazi-States of America, ruled by local, county, state, and federal stormtroopers/revenues!

My next move would have been to report him to the local police captain. We all know that some police are still pissed they were not able to pass the firemans exam and ended up as local police... sarcastic  Where I live the young officers often feel the need to prove something at the expense of  local citizens. I would at least ask the local captain what the officers problem was concerning you being in a public parking lot.

Welcome to the United Nazi-States of America..........................

Leon, you have related your dismay well, but....
By using the term "Nazi" you have just trivialized what the real Nazi's did, what they stood for, and the over 6 million people they murdered.

Don't get me wrong Pat, I totally understand what you mean, but the Nazi rule over Germany back in the 30s and 40s is a good example of a police state.
I do not condone the ruthless murder of millions and I don't take such things lightly!

As far as the reason for me being intersted in the construction is that the railroad is working on replacing ties and rails as well as crossings and I was concerned that all the hard work we put into the brick platform would be damaged due to the workers carelessness.

It's an old depop on the edge of town that the historical society operates on a very limited amount of time.
There is no "parking lot". Just a dirt path and a grass and weed covered area next to the building.

This whole thing could have went a completely different direction if I had been treated as a citizan of my home town, instead of a "suspect" up to no good!

Pat I agree that this is inappropriate, but in the grand scheme of things, Hitler/ the Nazi's were amateurs:

4) Adolf Hitler (Germany, 1939-1945) comes in fourth, at ~10,000,000 (concentration camps and civilians WWII).

3) Jozef Stalin (USSR, 1932-39) killed ~30,000,000 (the purges, plus Ukraine's forced famine).

2) Mao Ze-Dong (Political Purges: China, 1958-61 and 1966-69, Tibet 1949-50) killed ~70,000,000 people.

And the #1: ....The Black Plague: ~100,000,000 people (~1/2 - 1/3 of Europe).

Given this, and the myriad of other senseless wars that throughout history, we have waged on one another, I fail to see any real evidence that we as a species will occupy the planet for much longer.  In the end, it'll be the the meek cockroaches that will inherit the earth.

Hey Dan, could you expound a bit further as to how #1 belongs on a list with the other three?

It was a bit tongue-in-cheek.  However, it was [is] a bacterium a living thing, imposing, quite effectively I might add, it's will on the world around it, to the great determent of people, not so very different from Moa...

Still it'd be a tough argument to actually make...

Also don't lump all Police togther!! We have a member and falls into the salt of the earth status. He will sell you any part and sometimes give them away (when ever he is off duty) I wish we had more like him.

And no he will not say a word on what he does unless you come right out and ask him.

Seeing as how I started this topic I would just like to ask you all not to go off the deep end about the Nazi comment.
This was only said to describe the way I feel law enforcement in my area is headed.
Study how the Nazi party came to power and you may see what I mean.

Mindless and senceless murder of millions of innocent people has NOTHING to do with what I was describing.

And I will agree, there are still a few in law enforcement that have a sence of right and wrong, and know how to use their power without abusing it, but it seems those good cops are getting harder and harder to find these days.

Don't forget the  "local supply" policy of the Japanese army after invading China. 20 million, some eaten.

And our own James Polk and his push westward known as "manifest destiny"

I understand your frustration, but your cops aren't Nazis. They have a pretty shitty job and don't get paid enough.
