Use GOOGLE to search a web site.
« on: June 22, 2013, 10:55:47 AM »

Google can search the Internet for a topic, but you may get buried in a bazillion results, then.  Google will also search just one web site, excluding all other web sites.  The key here is to enter the search terms needed on the Google search line, and then to add “SITE:” followed by the right web site address.  I like Google for this work, because you can use operators like AND, and NOT.  AND is called by [space]+[space].  NOT is the minus sign, [space]-[word].

To find posts on clear braided brake lines, only on FJowners.com then the Google search line would be:
brake + braided + clear SITE:www.FJowners.com

To find the same posts, but with no mention of Kawasaki (for example), put a minus sign in front of Kawasaki (with no space between).  Then the Google search line would be:
brake + braided + clear -Kawasaki SITE:www.FJowners.com

When using the Google “SITE:” search, one advantage is this: when you search for something (maybe clear braided brake lines), the Google results will have a set of choices across the top of the page, and one choice is “IMAGES.”  Click on that, to see all of the images related to “clear braided brake lines” to be found on this web site.

The “SITE:” term, followed by any website address, limits the Google search to that one specific web site, only.  It works for any web site that you name, not just FJowners.  Using that “SITE:” search, any single hit might include a page, or even a few pages, of responses to the message found here.

Interesting... thanks!  I've been doing it like this:

'fjowners.com: brake+braided+clear'

The fjowners.com hits come up first, but the list also contains hits from other sites after.

Awesome!
Thanks for the tip.

This should be pinned for future reference.

I'd go further than that. Google site search could replace that search window up in the header of this page. It seems less than useful - every time I use it I get "no results", while the same search terms via search page get some.

You have to be on the main page for it to work.   pardon
