Title: Using the FJ1200 rear Brake on the GSXR/GSF rear wheel mod?
Post by: Greg C on December 08, 2017, 03:21:27 PM
I have a question that may have been addressed in another thread, but I could not find it. I have all of the parts to do the GSF (Bandit) Rear Wheel mod (wheel, brake hanger, calliper, brake line, GSXR brake link with the bushing on the end). But, I wondered if anyone has ever used the stock FJ calliper and calliper mount on the GSXR or Bandit rear wheel modification? I realise that the disks are different sizes. The FJ1200 is 282mm OSD and the Bandit is 240mm OSD. Is there anywhere/anyone that sells a 282mm OSD disk that would fit the Bandit wheel?

I realise the FJ brake is considerably heavier and I already have the other parts, but I am curious.

I've used the stock caliper on a couple gsxr swaps. Had to shorten the caliper mount by about 3/4".Cut it just above the axle hole. Not the sort of thing you want to try welding at home though. It's important to maintain the alignment of the mounting faces so the caliper runs true to the disc. I jigged it up on a piece of steel plate. Cost me $20 for the welding, works fine with no problems

You could get a rear caliper/mount from a gsx 600/750 suzuki thats not underslung ,that fits like the standard FJ caliper

Just curious.

Just curious.

I'd like to keep the bike as stock as possible. Where I live the roads are straight and I'm not much of a racer any more (since my daughter was born). My primary interest for changing the wheel has more to do with tire options than anything. I also think, aesthetically, the 17" wheel looks better.

Thanks. That makes sense.
