Thanks all for the welcome !

Pat, Thanks for the direction on the nozzle. I wanted to order one right away, but not sure about rpm shipping to Japan, and was hoping for some of the yamaha xjr updated nozzle Stock in Japan..

I checked the part number and all I could find was the 36Y-13454-00 part....(which is the older long nozzle)maybe the recall didn't happen in Japan

Could you please tell me the part number for the updated xjr?

I tried to look it up but couldn't find it ...

Thanks!!

Thanks Pat. No I checked that. The first ride I took my 86 after I resurrected it. Was a ride around lake Michigan. At the hotel somehow I put it in the parking position. Before heading into the motel room and didn't notice. Got up to a completely flat Shorai battery. One of the first ones I ever owned. Push started it in the parking lot. Rode it for 30 miles or so and recharged it. It was never as strong after that. But still way better than a lead acid. It finally died last spring. I don't know how long that was. I bought it shortly after I joined here. Just looked when I joined would make it around 12 years old.  After draining it  dead when I first got it. The  one I put in my raptor 700. Was put in in 2010. Had sat outside. For a couple years. After I crashed /totaled it.  Before having the frame straightened. Then sat for over 2 years in storage while building my house.  Never even disconnected it. Still starts the raptor like it's  brand new. Great batteries.

Anyway. I  appreciate any help I can get. Didn't get a chance to take the ignition switch apart this morning. But hope to tomorrow.

Yes, many of us have found the same. I think your Barnett will last longer than your oem diaphragm spring. Mine certainly has....

You also will be happy with the 14mm FZ-1 master and your blue spot monoblocks.

Cheers

Conclusion, unfortunately the slave failed before I could get a pull measurement with the stock master/Barnett setup. Took a mental health day today and played with the FJ. Rebuilt the FJR1300 master from eBay with a Yamaha repair kit. Installed the new slave from Randy. Flushed the Spiegler line and bled the system with my brake fluid of choice Ate typ 200, used it for 25 years on Porssche/Audi/Mercedes at the dealer level, top stuff. Test ride = awesome! So the combination of the RPM clutch pack, 14mm master and Barnett coil conversion (gold springs) is sublime. Light, progressive and SO easy in traffic. The lightest upward pressure and neutral is right there. Another highlight is my levers now match (R1 master). I may look at the FZ1 brake master to make them match, no rush. All in all very pleased and as always orders from Randy arrive promptly and well packaged.

Cheers and Kookaloo!

Greetings all,

Happy to join a new community, and what better excuse than a motorcycle! In this case it's a 1987 FJ1200, so dark blue it's almost black. I have been a rider and an aficionado for the last 20 years or so, and somewhere along the way I've developed an appreciation for air/oil-cooled bikes, thus I didn't need much convincing to make an offer and take this FJ home. I like to tinker around, and pull stuff apart - sometimes I even put them back together correctly!
Anyhow, what fascinated me about this specific FJ was thee fact that it was in first paint (given that it shows age) and that except for an aftermarket rear shock, an MRA windshield, and some silly scooter mirrors, it's all original and everything is working. I haven't fount a single home-made electrical connection or extra wire, and bike is running smoothly and with gusto.
I hope to use this platform to learn about the FJ, as a resource for parts and advice, and hopefully I contribute with something from my own experience.
I attached a few pics. My FJ has 91000km, and is a polar opposite to my slightly modded f1150gs I've been trashing around for the last two years.
I admit I'm a Honda and a MotoGuzzi fanboy but I've been known to show up on a Yamaha in the past, and considering my initial impressions of the FJ, it's going to become a regular thing.

Looking forward to mingling with the crowd, talk to you in some other thread  :good2:

Hello Abhi, welcome!
Yes, that rattle sound is your starter chain rubbing on the oil jet...this happens as our starter chains stretch which happens normally as our bikes get older..
Yamaha fixed this problem with the XJR bikes by using a different oil jet design....which is compatible with our bikes.
