Our first destination is actually Beaufort, South Carolina. My hometown where I grew up, I also went to Marine Corps boot camp 10 miles away at MCRD Parris Island. My High School Senior Prom was actually held on MCRD Parris Island   my Mom, Step-Dad, Sister, and an Aunt still live there.

It really is a neat little town. A very nice article for anyone interested.

Two more family members joined me for the trip. The 5 of us headed out early this morning from Austin Texas. We are currently 100 miles or so east of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

On the way to Austin from Wichita we stopped at Buc-ee's for gas and stuff. We found the Ultimate cooking lubricant..

LOL - whenever I fry bacon (English/Danish bacon, not that fatty stuff called "bacon" in the US & Canada) I cook my beans/tomatoes in the bacon pan and soak up all the bacon "cooking juices", or I clean out the pan with a couple of slices of bread (making sure I get all of the crunchy burnt bits).

Ahhhh, bacon grease, culinary heaven !!

Haha, that would have dietitians scrambling for their heart pills.

Hmmmm, I can almost taste it as I read your post, I've even chosen my bread, magnificent! That would have to be on any top ten list of life's simple pleasures. (If you're old enough and a Pom, you probably had "dripping" on toast as a child)

Made it into Beaufort, SC this morning. We drove 24 hours straight through.

Ha Ha Noel, not on toast, just on plain bread !!

And we still have it every time we cook a beef or pork roast, even today.
