Long Range Comfort... seating comfort that is!

About 7 years and at least 225K miles ago I had the seat on the FJ modified by Rick Meyer Seats who is no longer in business. It has proven supremely comfortable & durable. The only problem was a slight 3/4" hole worn through the fabric along the front lower left edge near the tank.

Well, a Forum member had work performed by Laam Custom Motorcycle Seats and thought them competent. So I motored over to their impressive facility. As it happens owner Seth Laam worked for many years at Rick Meyer Seats and without hesitation offered to repair the seat under warranty (!) despite the passing of years and high mileage.

My schedule did allow for me to stay and wait as customers are welcome to do, so the seat was left and a few days later I returned.

I expected a simple, standard patch sewn over the hole. It was a more than a most pleasant surprise to find the cover was completely removed and all across the front from side to side a new seam & material had been added!

Apparently the auxiliary fuel tank compressed the original foam on the rear section so across the back of the seat a very slight amount of foam material was removed so that it clears the tail piece and as with the front, a new edge was sewn in.

Also, some of the internal layers of foam padding had separated and were re-glued.

All new fasteners were used around the whole perimeter and it is worth mentioning that the new stitching appears more professional than the original seams.

Finally, the cover was cleaned to look like new & even the pan was completely wiped clean.

All this was performed because it was needed and without the customer having to ask. The attention to detail was way above par and of excellent quality. And Mr. Laam did indeed do it under warranty!

In walking around the shop & looking over the dozen or more seats (and the copious notes attached to them) in various stages of modification it is noticeable that they take the time to communicate with the individual customer.

Mike, this info is Golden to the All Day Riders, and Iron Butt riders. Iron Butt Masters possibly (does such a category exist?). Errr don't Google that. Move on...

I had a Corbin redone by a local guy and was not impressed. But a low cost deal has it's own price. Value is not measured in cost alone.

Great info on another seat option other than Corbin. I currently have a Corbin at an Upholstery shop being reshaped and recovered.

Mark, there is a sub group within the Iron Butt Association that recognizes riders who have done multiple official Iron But Rides. The Mile Eater Club.

Great sticker. I'm very pleased to see the FJR on it!

We need to see if they'll allow FJ Owners to mod it and sneak a FJ over the FJR.

There's a reason that FJR is on that sticker. That group recognizes the FJR as the most reliable bike on the road. A couple of Ironbutts ago a rider on a BMW broke down and barrowed a FJR to finish on.
