So Sunday I fueled up ive developed a horrible vibration while cruising.under hard acceleration its not thier at slow speeds it's not thier at 55/65 when i pull in the clutch and rev the engine.only at cruising

Mike m

The vibration builds also as I get at 45mph transition to 55 mph its very noticeable and it'll follow speed increase.

I had a new tire put on Saturday.Sunday morni g I increased the my rear spring to to make the rear a little stiffer

Problem solving 101... What changes were made/done just before the problem started? A wheel out of balance will feel more out of balance the faster you spin it. I would check that first.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

When I pull the clutch its gone tho

Drive train related.too loose of a chain?

I had this same issue Mike, any time i got above 65, i would develop a really bad vibration and lugging. I got both tires replaced, and rebalanced, and the issue is totally gone, all the way up to 105( as fast as ive tried). Try that first, and then if its still there, i would lean towards maybe a chain issue, like the vibration of the engine is causing swinging? thats just a guess in the dark though

So you bought it and the vibration started.... Where to start?

So today I got free time and reolaced the steering bearings.I also changed oil switched to 15/40 Estella.I lubed my chain and adjusted lacked.I couldnt ride it up to speed 55/65 mph as rain was headed my way felt great at 45mph.I'm suspecting a rear wheel bearing.

My swing arm bushings are well over due.I'm gonna order them tomorrow

Mike, FYI, the 84/85 swingers had nylon bushings which are no longer available.

You are lucky, on your '86 swinger linkage you have needle bearings, which are still available from Yamaha.

Thanks pat.I'm sure rpm will have what I need.ive never takin off or serviced my swing arm.I dont understand why yamaha made the sterring head that way.I used my welder and welded a 1/4 bolt to the races.
