I envy you guys that get warm weather in the winter months.

My bike is sitting in the shop, tank drained, with some oil splashed around in it, the carbs run out of fuel, and the battery removed.

It won't be used again for months.

Enjoy,

Ted

Sometimes I envy you Ted, but maybe for just a couple of weeks to cool down.

Never had to drain the tank or any of that, must be a bit of a chore.

Enjoy those cool days

60°F days in Wichita during December is rare. The high for tomorrow is 20° lower than today and closer to normal.

I'm staring at -5 degrees F with a 20-25mph wind, tomorrow, translates to about -30 F windchill. I must run my English Setter, daily, regardless of the temp. Some days are tough. This is what a -47 F degrees dog run looks like:

It will be unpleasant outdoors for a spell. It was mid 30 degrees today, but, still too cold to ride a motorcycle.

April should be better.

Enjoy, fellows.

Hard life here in Tenerife, Canary Islands, on winter. While all of you or my friends in Mainland Spain are cheating about gloves, heated grips, ice & snow, last sunday I was swimming at the beach on morning and a lot of curves on the afternoon (note the summer motorcycle equipment)

Millietant

We could go swimming here too Alf, although it may be a little chilly - we had some rain last night (and this morning while we are at the dog park with a friend, her beagle and her grand-daughter) - .

Our Labrador "Daxter" is the dog in these photo's from today.

It was mid 50s here today and very windy. I should have gone sailing. Not sure if the lake is iced up though.

I've lived in Minnesota almost my whole life, and today may be the worst blizzard I've ever experienced. Total white-out conditions on the roadways, many places shut down early today. The roads are a disaster, with jackknifed semi trucks, amateur drivers, and "ditch inspectors", as we call them here, people who loose control of the car and end up on the shoulder or in the median, unable to move. Cell phones cause more problems then they resolve, I am convinced of that.
It is actually quite dangerous to be out and about today.

I found another picture from the -47 F below zero dog run a few seasons past. Yes, that is ice on our faces:

It will be a while before I see a motorcycle out and about.
Alf, the Canary Islands might be a good spot for a cold guy like me to visit in February, no? Looks warm.

February is the coldest month here. It means that in a very cold winter the temperatures go down to 16ºC minimum.
Not this year due to the restrictions, not the climate, but I swim in the sea at least 2 days on a week. The minimum sea temperature along the year is 17ºC in February

I'm speaking about Tenerife South, Los Cristianos/Las Américas/Fañabé, where you have to come. There are around 20 different microclimates in the island, from 22ºC at the side of the sea to -5ºC up on the mountains. The South is warm and dry, North is cloudy, cold and rainy

About the landscapes, Canary Islands looks like Hawaiian Islands, volcanic, but there are not private beaches in Spain, all of them are public (not in Hawaii), and in normal times there are a lot of night life

If you plan to come, don't hesitate to contact with me to recommend hotels, places, excursions (your daughter would enjoy a lot Loro Parque)... and maybe a motorbike excursion?

This is the car park at our local supermarket this morning

Alf,
Thank you. I have no daughters, only one son, who just turned 14. My Wife is Colombian, and both are fluent, native speakers of Spanish. Me, not so much.

16 degrees C is a heatwave to a man like me, in February. I was looking a bit at the internet, and your island  home looks like a beautiful place to visit.

I will be in touch if we can come to visit, but, I wonder if 2021 will be a good year to do that with the lockdowns from the virus?

In fact I don't know. By the moment there are no viruses here on the South, but it is true that the night life & tourism attractions & shows (Loro Parque, Siam Park, tourism boats to see whales...) are suspended. Next winter maybe a better idea

Don't worry not to speak Spanish. There are British people living here for a lot of years and they don't speak a word

And sorry, I confused the pics with those from Milietant

Ted Schefelbein

All good, Alf. I definitely WANT to visit, but, as you note, it will be better in the future. I will look forward to your advice when the time comes.

Merry Christmas, Alf.

We had almost 2 feet of snow on the ground.  Last night it rained almost 2 inches and all the snow is now gone.  The streams and rivers are UP!
