Hi guys,
I checked my camshaft chain tensioner because I heared a ticking sound coming out of the engine block.
Since everything is fine with it i am about to reinstall it. (Good That everything's fine with the tensioner but I don't got the cause of the ticking sound. But thats for tomorrow.)

The clymer repair manual clearly states that the one way camshaft (See attached picture, in red) should face UP.
It just does not fit well with the one way camshaft facing up. Also on this drawing

it seems to be installed the other way around.

Does anyone know what's the right way to install it? Thanks guys!

The manual is wrong, the ratchet (circled area) is mounted facing down. There are quite a few mistakes in the aftermarket manuals.

FYI, we have saved a good discussion on the proper installation of the cam chain tensioner over in the General Maintenance Files.

This would have saved me some time.
I tried the search engine but for some reason that one did not show up...

Another member or two has suggested to use Google. When searching make sure fjowners.com is in the search. I have had better results with Google than the internal search function.

Good idea.

To that end, when you crank up Google, you can put in your search terms, followed by:

SITE:fjowners.com

This tells Google to limit the Search to just this one web site.  The SITE: command works for any web site, of course.  HTH.

I know for a fact that the Haynes manual tells you the ratcheting pawl faces down.

In the illustration that Felix posted, looking at the profile of the adjuster body, it sure looks to me like it's facing down.

The ticking you heard could be the end play in the camshafts, I've seen it mentioned on the forum here that you can hear a ticking from the top side of the left cylinder that might be what you're hearing seeing as no one has mentioned it. Mine does it when hot and sounds almost like a tappet with too much clearance.

Thanks cat! I think thats what I am wondering about.
I made a video and one can hear clearly that it comes from the left side of the cylinder block:

Is it likely that this noise is caused by the camshaft end play?
Is there anything to worry about?
